What's been the out come of most of your breedings?

My girl was breed August 10th & August 12th ... which makes her earliest due date October 12 (exactly 63 days from August 10th).

What are the chances of her having the puppies early, on time, or late??

I am very anxious and ready to see the puppies!  I've got my whelping kit all ready, and everything is set up and just waiting for HER to be ready.

I've been temping her 3 times a day for the last 3 days.  Last night she went down to 99.8 degrees Fahrenheit , and this afternoon she's at 99.6 degrees Fahrenheit-- is there a possibility that she may just keep slowly dropping, or should I be looking for labor quite soon here??

my guess would be she shall have them early, all the best when they arrive.

My experience in my own breeds, is that maiden bitches have pups earlier, up to a week early.  If I have a second litter, the bitch will often go longer with the second litter..  I don't know if that is common in all breeds, can only say that it's my experience.

My girl had her pups 4 days early from first mating, 6 days from second, it was her first litter and quite a big litter for her breed.

My girl had her 1st litter 2 days earlier @ 61 days and her 2nd litter bang on 63 days.  Both times I knew they were on their way as she became very restless and she wanted to go in the garden quite a bit but then she rested for an hour or two before they arrived.  You should hopefully be able to see contractions but I don't think this is always the case and probably panting.  Please stay with her and keep an eye on her, especially if she keeps wanting to go in the garden as it is poss she has her 1st pup there if you are not watching her.  Good Luck with your litter (try and get some rest yourself before as you will need it too!)

This doesn't apply to just the first pup, as my Lexi wanted to go in the garden after having five pups and had her sixth out there and I didn't notice right away until the other dogs started barking, and I heard the indignant puppy cries.  It was 11.30pm, and she went on to have another quickly after.

First stage labour (restlessness, panting etc) can last from minutes to 24 hours or so, but sometimes no signs are given.

My girl started panting being restless then sleeping for ages, this was on the monday. On the tuesday after a very long night we popped her to the vets everything was ok so back home for another very long day & night, the wednesday was the same again, her temp had been up & down by 12pm wednesday night it had dropped and by 2am the first pup was born.

The first stages seemed to take forever but she delivered them all in 3 and a half hours.

We have gone over (and still waiting!) On day 65 now, she has just managed to eat something but her last meal before that was 1pm yesterday, so she has slowed down now with that and her temp has started to hover around 37.1 - 37.6  but the last few days has been up and down like a yo yo. So hopefully soon as I am shattered keep waking up all night checking on her (and they're not even here yet )

my girls last litter (now all gone to good new homes) her temp was up and down for about 4days before she had pups !! it was low in the morning then it would rise by lunch then down and up lol it wasnt till the day before her temp went down to 36.7 and stayed down all day she had them the following day and she was 1 day early ,i was so tired as id not sleeped for 2days before she had them lol ....good luck im sure it not be to long now x x x x

One of my girls was 5 days early!
other have been one or 2 days late

Mine with first litters have been between 5 and 2 days earlier than day 63, but with subsequent litters most have whelped a day or two before, and I had just one bitch whelp late with a last litter.

I think different breeds tend toward early or late whelping.

My vet said that parturition is 63 days from ovulation.  Problem is unless progesterone testing you don't know exactly when your bitch ovulated.  If your bitch ovulated on August 8 then accepted the stud on August 10 when the eggs were viable, her due date could be as early as October 10.

Hope all is going well with your girl Em.

Mine have ranged from 60 days to 64 days from the first mating.  I'm dreading it this time as my bitch was mated 4 times over 6 days because she was still standing without putting up a struggle like she had for the first 2 matings and the experienced stud dog owner recommended it because we couldn't blood test her as it was the BH....her due date could be a week either way now AND she could only be having one puppy - arrrgghhh :-/

Well we have been to the vets had an x-ray etc and I am disappointed to say that there is nothing there. She is having a brilliant phantom!! Oh well it is very disappointing after all the effort going to Belgium, the time and money spent.... But never mind it wasn't meant to be and there will be a next time.

Carmen had her litter right on the day.  First time ever for a first litter in my Spanish but she did only have two.  Her mum and some of my others have had them 6/7 days early on first litter but have had normal sized litters of 5/6.

Oh no Em what a shame :(  I really feel for you :(

Well I'm pretty sure that we're in labor now!

Day 61(yesterday) at 9pm her temp dropped to 98.8 Fahrenheit.  It did go back up 3 hours later, but also three hours later, panting began and has yet to stop.  It's now 9am on day 62 and she's nesting a lot, as well as panting through the night.  She's only going outside to go potty, and I've kept a good eye on her.  All seems well so far, hoping for puppies sometime today.

congratulations!! my little girl is due to whelp in next couple of days its hr first litter. ive noticed she is sleeping more and is picking at her food. she has been into whelping box a couple of times so now its just a matter of waiting. congrats again xx

hi there! i was wondering if you could give me a bit of advice! i have cavalier king charles bitch which i would like to mate this is her 14th day of her period is this about the right time to mate as i see most people say about the 12th day better! she is still bleeding tiny bits! thanks in advance!

Bitches do not menstruate.  Have you read this.  You seem to know very little regarding the reproductive cycle of your bitch.  Have you carried out all the recommended health testing for this breed.  I would hope so as you should surely be aware they are very much in the spot light and I finding homes for the puppies will be very difficult to say the least if not.

i have the time ,and would not be looking to sell the pups as i would like to see them going to friends where i could still see them! but you are right i dont know enough about mating so any information would be much appreciated!

Whether or not money changes hands is immaterial - the fact is that the puppies would be changing hands. What sort of friend would you be if you let people have puppies who died young through an avoidable illness?

Better to breed properly and ethically and sell your surplus puppies to homes that have sought you out as a responsible breeder than to give them away to friends.  This would be no substitute for ensuring good results from all the appropriate health screening as giving your friends puppies that will involve a life time of expensive medication or an early death is not a recipe for keeping them friends.  You can find details regarding all the health issues affecting this breed on the breed club website.
