hello i have a staffie dog which is going to have pups this is my first time and would need help i also need a whelping box for her but dont know where and how to make one and also need some tips on what to do is there anyone that can help me on these topics i would be very greatfull

The best person to hold your hand so to speak would be the bitches breeder, and the stud dog owner. they should both have years of experience and knowledge of their lines, and so be able to advise you about likely length of gestation, likely behaviour and all other things Staffie!

I am sure board members will be able to offer some ideas.

You can buy disposable whelping boxes, if you look in the classified columns of Dog Magazines.

You will need to prepare quite a few things.

Try a google search, and obtain a book called 'The book of the Bitch' this has so much valuable advice and information. I still refer to it every time I have a litter, and have had (well 3 of my bitches between them) 7 litters over the years!

As for help have you contacted the breeder of your bitch to see if she can help?
On the whole most bitches are ok however ring your vet the day she is due and just make him aware of the birth.Fingers crossed you dont need him though.

I have a staffy bitch called bonnie,she has just had her first litter,she ended up having a section and had 2 lovley pups,and are all doing fine.I know how nerve wrecking it can be. I had not bred pups before and was scared to death,but with the help of the vet and this board we got through it and everything was great.As suggested let the vet know when she is in labour panting, digging and ripping her nice new comfortable bed apart and rearanging everything in it.and call him if you are worried at all.Everyone on here helped me through it especially KASH and kept me calm and because i was calm so was bonnie hope it all works out well for you keep us informed.
