I have a 10 week lab puppy.. she is on complete food - james wellbeloved
The vets say she is a good weight... and it looks like her build is quite stocky and chunky..
so as i have had sucess with her mum in the ring... i am thinking maybe to have a go with her too.. do you think it would do any harm to put some 'bone builder' formula in her food (however much on the back of the tin it says to give to a puppy).. as i had issues with her mum as a pup being too 'thin boned' and 'leggy' (although she has leveled out now)..

would it be wrong to give the puppy the forumla along with her complete food?

In the tin, there is a measuring spoon... for a 10week lab pup... use the larger of the measures.. heaped

once a day is enough, just tip over her complete food...

Actually, there is a potential problem.  If your bitch developed comes from a line that are gangly as puppies than you are playing with fire trying to alter something that is genetic with an excess of supplements.

   Calcium excess

"Feeding high calcium diets with excess calcium is often blamed for contributing to bone problems in young, rapidly growing dogs. There does appear to be a link between the incidence of hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD), osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) and hip dysplasia, and the overfeeding of calcium. In recent studies, researchers fed dogs calcium at a much higher than recommended amount, and compared the incidence of disease in dogs that were fed normal or less than normal calcium levels. As would be expected, the animals that were overfed calcium showed increased incidence of skeletal problems including hip dysplasia."

Ah.. you have a point there Cairnmania.. I give it because I feed a raw diet... and this particular product is aimed at the 'mainly' fresh/raw fed dogs.... where a calcium/phosphorous balance and deficiency may be a problem... and it can be, when weaning puppies on raw..

Its not like calcium tablets, it is a fully balance calcium/phosphorous supplement... so while feeding a good kibble puppy food there should be no need for to add this... ..

I was thinking maybe adding extra suppliment to a whole brand food wasn't good for her joints, just wanted to check.

I supplement with only calcium (no additional phosphorous) because my two get meat/veg with no bone for one of their meals.  I would expect that if you don't give your puppies bone than actually you should be supplementing the same way, meat with no bone is high in phosphorous and low in calcium.
