Hi,
This is my first post on here.
I have a 4 year old staffy and she has produced milk. She was in season back in June and in August she decided to produce milk. She is having a phantom big time. I need to get rid of her milk and she gets excersised 3 times a day and it doesnt seem to be doing anything. I have also been spraying vinegar on her boobs and giving her 5 mls of vinegar down her mouth. I have cut done her food intake but to no avail. Is there anyone out there that has any idea of what i can give her.
Thanks

If it is really bad it would be worth taking her to your vets, they can give you mediction to dry her up.
Edited to add oh wheres me manners WELCOME to the forum

Thanks for your reply. I have taken her to the vet and asked the vet if there was anything i could give her. She only said desexing ( aint gonna happen) her would fix the problem. Im like yeah no drrrrr.   The vet even charged me $36 to ask a bloomin question.
I will just have to keep doing what im doing and hopefully they will be gone by our Specialty in december.

I think asking the question was free.  The $36 was for the professional opinion in response :-)  I don't really know any bitches that suffer badly from phantoms that didn't require a spay in the end so, personally, I think he is right.  Better to spay her now while she is young and healthy.

Although don't spay her while she's actually having a phantom, because that'd prolong it.

Lower the protein level of her food and give her plenty of exercise. That'll help.

She wont be getting spayed full stop anyway as she is my breeding bitch. Vets always say to spay them and that gets up my nose. She will have a litter next year anyways so then she can have an excuse.    She has had a litter b4 and her pup is 20 months and we kept him. Only had the one.
Will just keep doing what im doing and hope it works .
Thank you all for your replies.

Problem is that in the US you can't show them once spayed.

To the original poster do they not use Galastop in the USA, it is Licensed in the UK for phamtoms to dry up milk.

The OP is in Australia.  Not sure what the rules on showing are there but I would not say it would out weigh the bitches welfare anyway.

Oops the mention of $ made me think US.

I wouldn't say phantoms are a welfare issue though, they are a natural consequence of the reproductive cycle, some just show more outward signs than others.

Again neutered animals cannot be shown in normal competition for title giving awards.

Yes, it is natural but those at the top end of the scale do have a miserable time of it.  They also continue to do this throughout their lives, bitches not having any menopause.  Many people do spay as a consequence and the bitches life continues without ever having to go through it again.
However, as the OP appears to be planning a litter on the next cycle a spay, at the appropriate moment, following that will be just as considerate as she will not be going through any more phantoms either way.
