I was thinking about the 'We love our dogs' video on YouTube and can't stop thinking about how this was a wasted opportunity.

YouTube is viewed by millions of people.  It's probably viewed by thousands of people who have recently been misinformed about the health care checks carried out by responsible breeders.

If hundreds of breeders all posted a video, all with the same message, it could do a lot to rectify the damage done.

It could go like this for example :

'Recently there was a program exposing the health issues of pedigree dogs. The program chose not to ask responsible breeders what health checks they carry out on their dogs. 

The program chose not to ask me.

I am [.........] and I breed [........], I check all my dogs for[..............] and only breed from dogs that are healthy. 

This doesn't mean there are problems in my breed, just that I am a careful, conscientous breeder who loves dogs.

Terribly ill dogs come from breeders who only breed for quantity not quality, they don't health check their dogs and knowingly breed from unhealthy animals.

Please be responsible when you buy a puppy, always ask that the health checks have been done and ask to see the certificates.

Please do your bit to improve the health of our dogs.'

I'm not very good with words and have no idea on the laws of libel but would be interested to hear your views on the general idea.

I think it is a really good idea!! I havent seen that other video, but i am guessing it would be in the format of a powerpoint presentation... How would you do it though? On the whole i think its fab if it gives us a "clear name" in a sense! lol :)

What a good idea, thats it I have to find the camcorder which may take a while but I think it is worth a shot.

I think it's important the general public take some responsibility too. They are the ones outraged but also they are the ones supporting puppy farming, without them buying there wouldn't be the trade.

I think you don't need to be a breeder to post up about this. Responsible dog ownership in my mind goes right down to where you got your pedigree dog from. 

So you could say I was not asked my views as an owner of a healthy pedigree dog.

I own (breed) I chose my puppy by researching that the breed was right for my lifestyle.

I researched and chose a breeder carefully, I found one who cared about their dogs health & welfare.

I was quite prepared to visit several times and be totally truthful about my lifestyle before buying a puppy.

I dont want to buy an unhealthy puppy who will have terrible illnesses and a shorter life.

All dogs can become ill, but the likelyhood of your puppy dying is considerably higher if you buy from breeders who only breed for quantity not quality, don't health check their dogs and knowingly breed from unhealthy animals.

We love our dogs!

Here you go It seems the Kennel club has decided this could be a good idea :)

at least it will stop people feeling so helpless if they do something to try and improve the publics view of our wonderful dogs.

I've put some pics up, haven't got round to videos yet though.

We plan to make a video of the eye testing we are running in Haddenham Village Hall (near Thame Showground) on Tuesday night. 7th October 5pm - 9pm

We are also planning to do another of the local KC Good Citizens tests being taken locally and of local people training their dogs.
