Does cheating happen alot in showing by people doing things that they should not.
Went to a show today ( lovely day out at sunny Brunel )
My AVNSC class was inside so we went and got a place to sit by my ring.
There was a lady next to me getting her pure white dog ready for her class.
She started doing something to it's eyes like putting something on the tear stains to get them white.
Anyway i did my class and came and sat back in the same place.
A friend came over and we started to chat, she said hello to Charlie ( my black Newf ) and then commented about a stain on his tail. He had put his tail in bleach.
Now i know it was not there before i went to the show , so now he has a bleached tail.
Now i am not saying that it was definelty the lady next to me but someone was using it.
Is this normal?

Unfortunately cheating does happen at times. People use substances to "Alter" their dog’s appearance before going into the ring. To my knowledge the only substance allowed by the KC for grooming is still water! Certainly it was the only substance allowed! Chalk if used should be combed out before entering the ring.

In obedience there are so many more chances to cheat but a good judge should know them and be able to sort them out. Meat paste on dumbell handles, food in the seam of a coat, sly hand signals in the advanced classes, you see them all but most get caught by the judge!

went to a bull terrier show recently with a big sign saying no chalking and not one person in there took a bit of notice, not competitors or officials.whatsa the point of the sign?

You always get that in Bullies. That is why handlers used to wear white coats (some of them still do).

Trying to clean tear stains, in my opinion, is not cheating. As long as the substance isn't on the coat when you go in the ring. There's nothing wrong with trying to make your dog as presentable as possible. As for bleach on your newfies tail.....well I can't imagine anyone using bleach at a show, but maybe someone will prove me wrong here!
As for obeying KC rules in the ring.......it always amazes me the way the GSD folk blatantly double handle/attract from outside the ring and NO-ONE ever says anything.

Well is was bleach or some type of proxcide on his tail, i made a formal complaint and the comitee are looking into it. Don't hold much hope though!! But i do know what you mean by double handling you see it everywhere and you are quite right no-one ever says anything , like the person that wrote about the chalking sign, we all see people doing things that they should not , if they want to do that fine, but i'm not impressed when it affects my dog ie black newf with a blonde tail!!

Oh well lets see what the next show holds in store!!!

Surely no one would put bleach near a dogs eyes, would they?

I should hope not , but when i was making a complaint, one of the members told me that quite a few people mix peroxide with chalk and rub it on dogs beards and faces to keep them white, usualy this is done at home but who knows?
I just hope that practices like these can be stopped , this cannot be good for the dogs to breath in , is winning more important than the dogs health to some people?
