Topic Dog Boards / Showing / IKC Green Star System?
- By jackson [gb] Date 29.09.08 10:10 UTC
Can anyone please explain the IKC green star system please? Are they just the same as CC's here? Or similar? The information on the IKC website is very sparse, and google hasn't helped either sadly.

Also, someone mentioned to me a 'Junior Champion' award. What do you have to do to gain this please?

Thankyou!

The showing bug has well and truly bitten, and I have Entered my next show with Poppy and our older pup aswell, who will be in junior. I can't wait!

to win a green star , at a national show , (non international ) you must be graded ' Excellent' and win your class , puppies can only challenge for greenstar once they are graded 'very promising' but puppie's can NOT challenge for the greenstar/cacib at international show's i.e (Fermoy , Combined , IKC show in june , sword's, clonmel and dun laoghaire ) puppies of 9 months must also go into junior class at international show's

also dog's must be over 15 months and in the intermediate class to challenge for cacib as dog's in junior class can only challenge for greenstar even if they are over 15 month's ... luckily i knew this at fermoy as my tt bitch could of stayed in junior but i done my homework and  put her in the intermediate class and boy was i glad as she went on to win greenstar bitch , cacib and best of breed :-)

Junior Irish Champion

must win 5 junior classes with excellent grade's
hope this helps

To become an Irish Champion  you need 7 Green Stars under 7 different judges.

When you compete in your class after the judge has gone over your dog and seen them move you will recieve a grading card which will have have your dogs grading on it.

For puppys you will get either:

Very Promising or Promising

and for older dogs you will get either:

Excellent
Very Good
Good
Sufficient
Cannot Be Judged

The judge will then place the dogs 1st to 4th as usual.

In the final line up of all dogs that wont heir class, only dogs graded excellent or very promising can compete for the green star, so for example if all in your class got graded very good but no excellent and you won your class you couldnt be in the final line up to compete for the green star as you didn't recieve an excellent grading even if you won your class.

We also have CACIB's here at any of our internationoal shows as mentioned above, but your dog has to be over 15 months to compete for that. It is awarded at the same time as the green star out of the excellent graded winners.

Hope that helps. There is also a Junior Diploma over here, which is similar to a Junior Warrant in the UK, which you gain from getting points for wins at Openand Champ shows.

Many thanks. That si veyr helpful

So, if you enter your dog, but don't get placed, you still gte a grading card, as these are given out before the placings? If so, that sounds like a very good system, as it gives an idea of what your dog is like.

Could you possibly explain more about the Junior Diploma please? Is that the same as the 'Junior champion' I was told about? How many points does a first place win (does it depend on how many are in the class?) and how many points are needed to gaint he junior diploma?

Of course, it's all gravy, as I expect we'll do pants! But it's all good fun regardless! :-)

Thankyou!

Yes you still get a grading card even if you aren't placed.

The Junir Champion and Junior Diploma are two different things. Fpr a Junior champion you have to win 5 Junior classes and then the dog get the title JCH.

For a Junior Diploma you have to make up the points by attending open and champ shows. You need a card available from the IKC and if you win the points onthe day just get the judge to sign the card and once you have won the points you send th ecard off to the IKC and you get the letters JD added after the dogs name

Here is exact way to win the points.

Junior Diploma Award

All exhibits may compete at both Open/Ch. Shows for the Junior Diploma Title providing that they are between 6 and 18 months on the day of the Show, and win a total of 12 Junior Diploma Points in the following manner:-

OPEN SHOWS
They are placed 1st in any class, whether for their Breed(if scheduled) or in any other class within their Group i.e. AV Toy, or any mixed class breed class within their group at Open Show level (only 1 class win per show gaining 1 point)

A bonus 2 points will be awarded if the exhibit wins its Relevant Group on 1 occasion.

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS
2 Class wins at Ch. Shows under 18 months must also be attained - each class win gains 2 points

All awards must be signed by the Judge/s on the day, giving details of the Show and Class/Group won.

NOTE: Only 1 class win (1 point Open Show/2 points Ch. Show) and 1 Open Show Group Win (2 Points) per Show counts in the total.
(Multiple wins at 1 show will not count)

The Junior Diploma Award Book may be obtained from the IKC at a nominal cost. However it would be preferable if all Show Secretaries running Shows held a small stock of these Books for the exhibitors of the day of the Show.
