Have been having my girl blood tested this time ready for mating she has had 3 blood tests the second one showed her level to be 2 and then 3 days later it had shot up to 16 the vet told us she had ovulated and to get her straight to the stud dog for whom she stood well for.  Just wondered what these numbers mean and what figure do they rise to I take it the lower they are they have not ovulated, what is the max that they can rise to.

Sorry cant help. our vets give you ovulation time in days, our 1st test no where near ready, 2nd 3-5 days, 3rd test again 3-5 days, 4th test mate in 1 day, we went all the way to Germany, my female misseed this time, 1st time we have missed a litter, and used the same vets everytime for the tests. totally gutted, just wanted 1 puppy to keep off my female. And this is the way to read the values given

Progesterone (quantitative)
      A blood sample should be taken about day 7 post vulval bleeding. In most bitches the progesterone concentration will be <3 nmol/L indicating that ovulation has not occurred. If the progesterone level is above 6 nmol/L, ovulation has occurred and depending on the actual level we will advise when to sample again if required.

Interpretation
Progesterone <1.0 - 3.0 nmol/L Ovulation has not occurred, resample 3 -4 days
Progesterone >6 nmol/L Ovulation has occurred, resample again if required
Progesterone 16 - 20 nmol/L Mate within 33 - 57 hours
Progesterone 20 - 38 nmol/L Mate within 9 - 33 hours
Progesterone >38 nmol/L Mate within 9 hours 

This is a far more acurate way of determing opitum mating times than the standard premate test (done by reading a colour against a chart), always been successful on my bitches . Good luck

Every time she has been for a blood test we have taken her in for about 08.00 and have had the results back at about 17.00 on the same day the vet actually sends them off to a laboratory for testing they dont do it at the actual vets.
