Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Increased discharge season on its way??
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 22.09.08 15:31 UTC
Hi all
Just wanted to know if anyone else has this with their girl before coming into season - my bitch normally has some sticky discharge all the time but today when she walked past me i noticed she looked very wet on her fur round her 'lady garden' area. I got very excited as she's 3+ weeks late for her season and am wanting to breed her for last time (she missed earlier this year), so i got the white tissue and had a look. She had loads of white ish discharge coming out and was very wet on her fur - no smell and perhaps slight discolour of a very light beige on the tissue.

She hadn't just been to wee as came out of her bed and into the kitchen. She is behaving normally - a part from perhpas being a little more excitable which i think could be her hormones gearing up for the season.

I dried her up and re checked after being out for an hour and there was still moisture but not like it was before and it was the same colour.

Can bitches get an increase in vaginal discharge just before a season or am i reading too much into this?

She has recently had vet check to have anal glands cleared and i did mention to him that she has discharge most of the time (small sticky bits) but he checked her and wasn't concerned, said it looked normal.

Thanks in advance

Hiya lorripop,

sounds normal to me, Ive noticed they get this discharge roughly for about 2 wks before coming into season, the colour sounds fine also.
Bitches get alot of different funny coloured discharge throughout the season and I wouldnt worry unless it smelt bad.

Good luck!!

Thanks Em

Its just the same this morning unfortunitely - was hoping for it to be blood!!

She is fine though, and theres no smell to it - she's just fed up with me i think checking her bits!!

Just wanted to know if a silent season has the same symptoms as a normal one but without the blood?

Does the vulva swell?

My girl is still discharging this sticky whitish stuff, reasonable amount as makes her fur stick to it. It is always there. I'm not sure that her vulva is swollen but isn't as small as my other little girls.
She is quite excitable at the moment and has been marking out her walk for a few weeks. She is not encouraging my boys to be fruity with her (they have both been castrated but they still show interest when the time is right).

just wondered how silent  is silent??

might take her back to vets and get the discharge checked again.

this is where a matetel becomes useful

I have one of these but because she's never had a silent season before i'm not sure what to look for or not as the case maybe!

i used it the other day and there was no indication of ovulation so presumed she's just brewing for a season - its just this discharge that i was thinking about and a silent season perhaps.

hoe long has she been having the discharge for?

she always seems to have some but it had increased over the last week to week and a half.

I would re-test on the mate-tel, it won't do any harm to do this. Plus maybe a quick phone call back to the vet to get some  more reassurance. Good luck with everything :-D
