Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Worrying snappy problem

My puppy Ziggy is getting into a very annoying habit. He snaps at other dogs' faces. He will happily play with them for ages then start getting snappy and biting at their faces. It's worrying as I don't want the other dog to bite him or something worse in protection of itself. :( As soon as he gets like that I put him on the lead and he is instantly calm. What can I do to try and dissuade him from this rough play-biting behaviour???

A very mystified CG

Cuteygirl,
How long exactly is "Playing for Ages"? I remember your post on "Snappy Puppy" when Ziggy was getting bitey after becoming overtired when playing for over an hour... Couldn't this be for the same reason???? He gets mouthy when tired... it's his nature, so look for 'tells' and stop it before it starts :)

Since he starts out fine and declines over time, watch for signs of tiredness and stop all play activity before it comes to this point. Or set a time for the dogs to play -- 20 or so minutes --- and then everyone ceases play when the time is up. Then put (all) dogs on leashes and practise "down/stays" at the owners' convenience. Play time is over... now it's quiet time :)
regards,
toodles

I just wasn't sure if biting at humans or biting at other dogs was the same thing???
