Oh, I am still trying to figure out how to cook Black Pudding, any help there Kim????
- By munrogirl76 Date 21.09.08 03:10 UTC
I thought black pudding was oatmeal and blood. So I would think you just mix it together and heat. :-D

> Oh, I am still trying to figure out how to cook Black Pudding

If its already made ( probably looks like a big sausage ) then just slice and fry :-D

If you're making it from scratch .....then ''gulp'' :-D :-D

My fave comfort foods are.......

chips with cheese
bacon sandwich
mashed potato
Gratin dauphinois
pralines and cream ice cream
chocolate fondant puddings (gordon ramsey's)

- By Dill [gb] Date 21.09.08 11:47 UTC
I used to grill it when I was able to eat it (not since going Wheat and Gluten free :(  tho  I may chance it when I find a few days when it doesn't matter if I have to stay near a loo ;) )

Comfort food in our house

Sausages and mash with veg and onion gravy (GF sausages ;) )

Steak and kidney pie/pud      (Haven't had that for years and still miss it.  The first year was the hardest, I actually cried when I smelled them cooking in Greggs bakers! :( :()

Chocolate cake - Home made Gluten Free chocolate cake is yummy

I'll of course have all the time in the world to set Kim on the right path and muster the ingredients for her :-D but just so she has time to perfect a few before moving in day, SOME of my fave comfort foods are

roast topside of beef thick sliced onto hot buttered toast
Cabbage tossed in butter, mashed swede with oodles of black pepper and caulieflower au gratin - all on the one plate :-D
profiteroles in warm milk choc sauce
home made custard with Eve's pudding;
brandysnap baskets with candied strawberries and mountains of whipped cream

my list could go on forever - this poor kid is going to need serious aftercare when she leaves my after care
Shameless :-o

Chocolate cake - Home made Gluten Free chocolate cake is yummy

It is definatly better than the GF cakes you buy in the store, but when mom does it, its a bit thick.....more like a loaf, instead of a fluffy cake......... does yours turn out like that?  I am used to betty crocker cakes lol
She adds some "yukky gum" as she calls it (she cant say Xanthium Gum lol - and also the price is yukky!!!  At 16 dollars per 3 cups of it)

I hope you realise my 'gulp' meant 'crikey, I don't know' and not 'take a long swift swallow' :-D :-D

Now I feel green.....  :(  :-D
- By k92303 Date 22.09.08 15:05 UTC
I do like peanut butter thickly spread on a nice bit of bread, but that is saved only for the most traumatic of days.

I am really in to making soup from squashes, onion, herbs from the garden. Nice and thick, yum! Making some tonight and I think I'll do an apple crumble too.

Mine turn out really light and fluffy - just like the 'normal' ones you can buy in the shops :-D

I use a half and half mixture of GF BREAD flour and RICE flour ;)  and forget the Xanthan Gum.   To a 4 egg cake I would add 2 oz of Cocoa INSTEAD of 2oz of flour - this stops it getting really heavy! So 4 eggs, 8oz of flour and cocoa and 8 oz of sugar (vanilla sugar is lovely!) and butter (or marge) add 1 teaspoon of GF raising flour too

It may  be that she is adding too much Xanthan gum - to 8oz of flour I would only add about 1/2 a teaspoon - but I hate the stuff, it gives us all terrible wind !

Another thing about gluten free cake mix, is that  you usually need to add some milk/soya milk/rice milk to loosen it until it will drop off a spoon, then leave it to thicken in the tins for about 15-20 mins.

You really must line the tins with greaseproof paper as this will help the cakes out of the tins when cooked, remove the paper while the cake is still hot ;)

Hope this helps

PS if you try it let me know how you get on :-D

>Can I come for tea please?!!!

Of course you can! Plenty to go round
- By ali-t [gb] Date 23.09.08 19:59 UTC
my fav one when I don't want to gorge but still want a choc fix is to have a mug of hot chocolate and a packet of minstrels and a spoon.  If you put a minstrel on the spoon and dip it into the hot chocolate the shell doesn't melt but the chocolate inside does.  It is such an amazing tasted, I'm drooling....
- By bilbobaggins [gb] Date 25.09.08 21:41 UTC

> 'bout Nutella, straight from the jar with a spoon

An ice cold spoon left it in the fridge for a while then eat the nutella, it does something special,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
- By bilbobaggins [gb] Date 25.09.08 21:43 UTC

> If you put a minstrel on the spoon and dip it into the hot chocolate the shell doesn't melt but the chocolate inside does

My daughter does that usually while watching Hang - Over TV....
- By munrogirl76 Date 25.09.08 22:02 UTC
Has reminded me - and I bet no-one else does this - cup a soup in a mug (minestrone or tomato + veg with croutons) cut up cheese and fill mug, then boiling water over top and stir - melted cheese and cup a soup meaten out of mug with spoon....
- By Teri Date 25.09.08 22:11 UTC

> cup a soup in a mug

I'm thinking yuk, yuk, yuk and so many more yuks

> cut up cheese and fill mug

I'm thinking, hmm, interesting - especially as there was mention of croutons ;)

> melted cheese and cup a soup meaten out of mug with spoon....

And now I'm hungry and I don't have cup-a-soup aaaaaarrrrggggh :(   :-D
- By munrogirl76 Date 25.09.08 22:52 UTC
Guess what I am eating now.... :-D
- By Crespin Date 27.09.08 20:56 UTC
Havent done the pudding yet, have been on Vacation for the past week, so havent got a chance to make it up.

But I have already had hagis, cook it all the time!!!!!  YUMMMMMMMM
- By Astarte Date 28.09.08 07:08 UTC
yucky! that sounds aweful lol!

but you go girl, different is good :)
- By Astarte Date 28.09.08 07:11 UTC
well if you can eat haggis and enjoy black pud will be easy in comparison. blood and oats is far less scary than whats in a haggis...

i've got another one- reeses pieces and reeses white choc cups, i love em i love em i love em. but you can't get them in the shops here, only chocolate cups and nutrageous bars which i cannot eat :(

whenever i've a friend going to america i beg them to bring them back :)

i like to nibble the shell off the outside and then let the peanut butter melt....mmmm....
