I have a Kees bitch that was 2 in June, and her coat is driving me crazy at the moment. She had her last season in February and is due again in November. The whole cast/newcoat cycle takes a long time for her anyway because of the 9 month seasons. She has shed the majority of her coat and it is well on its way back, no problems at all. However, there is a 10cm patch of coat on her chest has gone very dry, brittle and is basically dead. It didnt come out like the rest of it, and there is practically no sign of new coat growth. She has had several baths and it just wouldnt lift, the small sections that have are almost bare! It seems strange that it is so localized. It is not sore, inflammed or itchy. The only symptom is the dead coat and no regrowth. She normally carries a lovely coat as you can see from the pic. She is fed mainly on a raw diet, with a vitamin supplement. She also has Vitaoil from doreen Paige.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this or any tips on how to treat it?

Thanks

Hi K5Kees,
This has been a dreadful year for double coated dogs. I can only speak for what I would do for mine lots of tinned oily fish pilchards, sardines.
It sounds like it is the undercoat that hasn't grown back. But! it is a little warm at the moment. The outercoat is corse anyway. I would not worry to much at the moment.

Thankyou. Its just frustrating that there is one patch that wont come back in. The rest of her coat is fine, lovely texture. just her chest feels like it should be on a wire haired dog, not a harsh double coat. She does look quite funny with a big ruff and no chest. will up the fish in her diet, and keep fingers crossed.
many thanks.
