Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / My dog has lost recall!!!

Hi,

My bitch is a 14 month old Keeshond and has always had an excellent recall, sometimes just to the point of hand signals.  She has just had her second season and I find during this time, although she is never off lead, all previous training goes to the wall.
I am now off out and about again off lead as the season has finished but her recall is terrible and she just stands and looks at me defiantly.  I always recall during a walk so she never knows when it is the end, sometimes I treat, sometimes not.  I try not to call more than once.  I run in the opposite direction like a looney.  Nothing is working much at the moment.  Does anyone know why and has anyone any good ideas?

Before I clicked on your post I knew from the title this was going to be a teenager :-) It happens to them all I'm afraid at around this age. My youngest collie was wonderful up until about 10 months, then went deaf for a few months and is now back to her wonderful obedient self. It's back to basics for you both, practising in the garden and having the tastiest/smelliest treats you can find, you may even have to use a long lead till she is out of her 'kevin' stage. You've obviously done a good job training her up till now, stick with it and she'll be fine :-)
