of the magic roundabout. what breed was he? i think a badly trimmed Lhasa Apso personally but wiki claims a floppy eared Skye terrier??

(lol sorry having random conversation at work)
- By killickchick Date 11.09.08 20:53 UTC
LOL

I had a Dougal teddy  back in the 70's - black fur with rubbery plastic face

My sis had a Dougal with purple fur and white ruff

We used to take their filling out and put our secrets (and sweets) inside - until a nasty aunt threw them away saying they had fleas :( the Dougals not the sweets :-D

- By killickchick Date 11.09.08 20:56 UTC
Have no idea Astarte. To us kids it was just a hairy dog with a big black nose :)
- By munrogirl76 Date 11.09.08 20:57 UTC
I thought he looked like a Peke.
- By Astarte Date 11.09.08 20:59 UTC

- By LoisLane Date 11.09.08 21:02 UTC

- By Moonmaiden Date 11.09.08 21:10 UTC

- By tatty-ead [gb] Date 11.09.08 21:12 UTC

- By Astarte Date 11.09.08 21:13 UTC
lol well not as sad as i am obviously chatting about this at work (actually one of the guys refuses to believe the magic roundabout has drug connotations- come on!) and we got on to this.

Oh man Dylan is described as "Spacey rabbit " lolololol what did he think that means hahahahaha
- By Astarte Date 11.09.08 21:47 UTC
apparently Dylan is just lazy...
- By munrogirl76 Date 11.09.08 22:40 UTC
Maybe Dougal is a designer crossbreed!
- By shadbolts [gb] Date 12.09.08 08:31 UTC

yep and the pigs are all fuelled and ready to take off :)

I took my daughter to see the latest film a few years ago and she could understand why all the adults sniggered when Dylan started going on about the "grass"

I heard about the rumours about drugs too......Dylan was supposed to be off his head on weed and Dougal and his sugar eating habit and whizzing about all over the place was supposed to be a referance to snorting coke or so Im told.......If thats true im amazed it got braodcast, funny though I never once thought of that as a kid, well I wouldnt would I, but now im older it kind of makes sense
- By philly256 [gb] Date 12.09.08 08:40 UTC
"The main character was Dougal (Pollux), (a drop-eared variety of the Skye Terrier)."

.......thats according to Wikipedia
- By Astarte Date 12.09.08 08:56 UTC
i'd actually like to see the movie, looks pretty good :)
- By Astarte Date 12.09.08 08:57 UTC

LSD actually, the french like to take it in sugar lumps apparently...
- By Astarte Date 12.09.08 08:57 UTC
but he looks nothing like a skye terrier

Yeah I thought that too Astarte...but thats what Wiki says lol.... and going by all the trouble ive had getting articles ive written on Wiki to stay because of  lack of citations and rerences etc ...I guess it cos its still there it must be true......

And the LSD thing...didnt know that again just going off what ive been told ,but yeah that makes more sense too lol

Me...I much preferred Chorlton and the Wheelies anyway ...now theres a kids tv programme :)
- By LoisLane Date 12.09.08 11:23 UTC
Thats what i have always thought and have looked online and it would appear that we are right!

What about Captain Pugwash....
He had the cabin boy Master Bates and there was always references to discharged sea men..
I actually would not let my kids watch it !!

I know I am a prude !!!!!!

Lots of Disney Films have lines aimed at the adults though .Maybe they always did and as was supposed the kids (us), would not get them!

My sister has a Springer Spaniel,( a rescue), who started  his life with her being called Zebedee, he is so laid back he is now called Brian.

No he didn't, it was Tom the Cabin boy and Master Mates.  This is an urban myth that a lot of people have been taken in by.  Even the Guardian was forced to print an apology to the creator of the series when it printed a story that said the series was full of sexual innuendo.

I recall my little brother watching a Thomas the Tank Engine video - it began with Thomas putting his brakes hard on and overshooting the platform and being very embarrassed... I was rolling around on the floor in mirth - little bruv was 3 at the time and looking at me in complete bewilderment. I am sure now at 13 it would make him snigger! ;-)

I liked Evil Edna. :-D But I don't think anyone can argue that she was a television set. :-)
- By Tadsy Date 12.09.08 14:12 UTC
Willow the Wisp - now that was a classic. I'll always remember the one where the prince (who'd been turned into a monster) had been told a chant to say to turn him back into a prince.....
"Round the ragged rock the ragged rascal ran."
Unfortunately he had a speech impediment a la Jonathan Ross, so he turned into an Ice Lolly and melted!

It's terrible! :-P  My friend wanted to see it when it came out so off we went (you know, one of those 'i don't want a move that makes me think' nights).  We were the only people in that screen!

I think Dougal looks more like a drop eared skye than a Lhasa... hes faarrrrrrr to long in the back for a Lhasa!

- By Isabel Date 14.09.08 09:17 UTC

- By dogs a babe Date 14.09.08 17:38 UTC
I'm so pleased someone else asked this question.  I remember coming back from Crufts years ago and my Mum asked me 'what type of dog was Dougal?' - I think she may have had plans to check out Discover Dogs!!

My brother was absolutely convinced Dougal was fitted with wheels cos you never saw paws - he also said Dougal had no ears; is that true?

I can feel the fear building already ;)
- By Astarte Date 15.09.08 13:20 UTC
he doesn;t look like he has ears so thats where the 'drop eared sky terrier' theory runs into some trouble...
- By newf3 [gb] Date 15.09.08 16:48 UTC
According to my Mum, my very first word was Dougal so its no wonder i ended up with Three Newfs!
LOL.
