Hiya guys quick question for a bit of reasurance really...

My girl is 18 days from first mating and I notice 2 days ago the first sign of the creamy coloured discharge, today I noticed some more, went into the other room come back and she has left like a blob of thick brown discharge on her bedding is this normal? it doesnt smell so i know its not infection , but is it ok through these early stages and is it still a good sign like the creamy discharge is suppose to be?

have just taken my bitch to vet for the same reason - showing very small amount of discharge - she could be 24 days pregnant - have booked a scan for next week.  vet gave her antibiotics just in case.  am the same as you - not sure if any of this is normal but am a bit paranoid so didnt take any chances.  my bitch also vomited a bit of clear stuff a couple of times - vet said could be morning sickness - AAAAH!!!!  so until scan dont know whether pregnant - absorbing pups - aborting or what - just a case of wait and see at the mo'.

my vet didnt even want me too go in, she said it is too early to tell anything anyway, if i am still worried take her in next wk!....she didnt suggest abs either

she did say obviously not a good sign if she is bleeding....sll tho it isnt like fresh blood it looks very old stale blood (dark brown)  just out of curiosity how long has ur bitch stopped bleeding for ? Im thinking maybe it could be the last bit of old blood coming out after the season , mine stopped about a wk ago, finishing of with small bits of brown discharge then she showed the creamy discharge 2 days ago and now this....

also I dont how true this is, as i always thought u cudnt tell a bitch reabsorbed but i have read you can tell if the discharge is coloured????

I had a bitch thats on day 18 lost a few brown clots. She was given anti biotics and the vet told me she would probable lose the litter, if she was pregnant. She went on to have 8 puppies and the vet that scanned said that the clots can be a sign of the neck of the cervix tighening due to pregnancy and pushing a bit of gunk out from the season.

Hope all is well

she still had a couple of brownish stringy bits yesterday when i decided to take her.  the vet internally examined her and said her cervix was a bit open but again it was just a case of - wait and see.  today she (touch wood) hasnt had any discharge and having spoken to a couple of experienced breeders yesterday i think i was probably a bit anxious about her.  its her first time - though am not sure if that makes any difference!
hope your bitch is doing well now - are you going to have her scanned - what breed is she?

Brown discharge has worked both ways with us, first one got to day 46 still with discharge and on AB's and sadly lost her litter, my second girl had exactly the same, my vet told me she was aborting, put her on Synulox for the whole of her pregnancy and she had 7 healthy pups at the end.

So I'm afraid it's a case of wait and see, fingers crossed all goes well.

she is fine today thanks, she is a [Mod breed removed] LOL......maybe we have a thing going on here.....

I was told that maybe it was a pup? probably wasnt viable and making room for the rest.....but then also I have spoken to other breeders who have experienced the brown discharge and everything has been fine.....its so hard to know?

she hasnt had any since and she has been dead lively so fingers crossed and hope for the best!!!

Im unsure if I shall take her in next wk as I think it is still a little early to scan especially if she didnt catch till last mating.....!!

but then I cant wait to find out either!......cant win can we!

Hope your girl continues with no more discharge and good luck!

oh wow - how strange is that - similar breeds!  i have a 'granddog'  - she's fab - we used to breed them many moons ago - not easy but then what breed is especially if you love them to bits as we do.

glad your bitch is doing ok at the mo'.  have read many fors and againsts scans - still sitting on the fence on whether they are accurate or not.  would hate to get my hopes up only to see nothing at the end.

thanks to SharonM for your advice any helpful info is gratefully received.  have not bred dogs for 20 years and so many things have changed/improved?........not sure on that one!!

thanks EM that is what i meant.......my girls date is roughly 18th October .......am in London that weekend so hoping she may be late or early as husbands hands wont fit the rubber gloves - if you know what i mean!!
- By Em Date 13.09.08 13:32 UTC
o yes u wouldnt want to miss it!!....

Im thinking we(we as in me and lilly) have lost wot was there if anything, she had an accident through the night so mopped it up this morning and the same again was in it, the swelling has gone down on her bits too.....so now Im just hoping she hasnt got a infection will be taking her to the vets in the wk to get her checked over will let you know how we get on....

Where are u from if u dont mind me asking?....just that u are visiting london wondering if u are down south?

am from wales.......have you heard of the Gower......we live on the edge of that area.  since i last spoke she had another small discharge again brown but no smell.   i am getting very grey hair from all this....maybe even balding is setting in!!  still pumping in the abs hoping they doing some good.

hope your girl ok.  have read so much about absorbing pups - getting a bit confused on whether it can happen or not and if it can what are the signs if any?  are you a very experienced breeder - you know been breeding dogs for years?
