Does anyone do their own wall art? Ive just bought some canvas because I recently decorated my living room and want some pictures for the walls but all the ones Ive seen are £30ish and now Im living on my own I cant really justify spending that on wall art!

So Ive been and bought 12 canvases (£13!) and Ive had a play at painting different styles on just paper but I havent found anything I like yet. Whats the best paint to use on canvas?

I made a HUGE wall art
Dad made a frame, and I covered it in..............A Scrap of material from one of the places that sell off cuts!!!!
It ws to go on a huge end wall on my stairs i one of my old houses!!!!
Worked really well :)
So that might be an option, if you cant get the paint to work, go and buy some off cuts of material that you like :)
HTH and Good luck :)

My daughter painted one for me as I wanted a large canvas for my living room. She used Acrylic paints and I think it looks fab. I think you can put a pattern with clear drying glue on the canvas then paint over in colour so the squiggles are lighter IYKWIM. Useful if you are as bad as art as me :-D

If you really want to do it on the cheap go to B&Q and find a bit of wallpaper you like and take a sample big enough to cover your frame and staple it on.  It sounds reallly tinky but I have seen it on makeover shows and it was in a B&Q catalogue a while ago.  It can either be as an accent or tone in with your current design and you can change it frequently.  eeeh, I should send that into take a break or that's life. ;)

If you are not able to paint straight off free hand try using an overhead projector.

I was going to say the same thing.....there are loads of very trendy wallpapers out there at the mo and the samples you take are free, what better way of getting lovely pictures without having to do much painting if your not good at art.
Plus you can match or contrast to your existing colour scheme very easily :)

I'm really lucky as Hubby's an artist so he paints all the pictures in our house and I can always get replacements if we get bored with the current ones.

He painted fantastic murals for the children's rooms when they were smaller and we've always had great themed kid's parties as he creates whole scenery. We've had the house and garden turned into a pirate cove, a castle, a space station, a jungle and the most amazing underwater theme.

I use acrylic mostly.  It works really nice.
If you are really brave, go for Indian Ink.  Its fun, but really hard to get the hang off (if your not used to painting in strictly black)
