Topic Dog Boards / Health / Dogs that dont produce tears and have partial sight

Hi

do any of you have partially sighted dogs that dont produce tears.  I currently have a dog in my care that has very poor sight, I have to administer sno tears regularly throughout the day because she doesnt produce tears and this does help.

I'd like to know if there is anything you can give them last thing at night that helps through the night - I've noticed that this dog likes to go out to relieve herself in the early hours of the morning - 4 o'clock ish - but then cant find her way back in.  I'm guessing this is because she wont have had her eyedrops since bedtime which makes her poor sight even worse - and I'm hoping that if I can find something to use overnight we may be able to help her.

Last night I decided to stop her exit so that she couldnt get stuck outside - and she just messed in the kitchen so looking for a way to help her,

thanks everyone

Lacrilube should help overnight as it is much thicker than the gel tears.  This is what I found myself when I was going through a period of dry eyes myself.

Thanks Barbara I shall mention it to the vet first to make sure he doesnt object and then go looking for it,

It is one of the things Vets prescribe and can be bought over the counter at the chemist.
