Topic Dog Boards / Health / Help and Opinions Breeding after Booster
- By pamela Reidie [us] Date 25.07.02 10:58 UTC
Help please.

I recently read somewhere that it was not advisable to breed too soon after an annual booster.

A freind of mine plnas to breed her dog in the next 14 days and the dog received it'a annual booster 2 days ago. Is this OK? Do any of you have opinions on this?

I think I have alarmed her by saying that I had heard or read somewhere it was not advisable so because I said it I though I'd better check it out??

Now some may say ask the vet but we do sometimes have opinions different form the vet.

Thanks in advance for any comments..

Hi Pamela tell her NO, hold off! Read the info coming out of vet unis & also Dr dodds on new vacc protocol. If you need the links I can get them for you but it may take me a couple of hours.
5yrs ago, on the vets advice I boostered my bitch just before she was mated. 1 of the pups had ephyseal & it has never been determined what caused it, hell it took me a while to even find a vet who had heard of it never mind the cause. Apart from that vaccines shed into the enviroment.

I really don't know whether I should have said to her or not. She had a bad experience before with another thing so was being concerned although I do not know anything about it. I didn't want her to have any problems naturally.

Hello
I would never mate a bitch of mine after a booster.
I was told by my vet that it is not a good idea.
As I had one bitch and her vaccinations were due
the time of mating, we waited and vaccinated her
after the pups had left. I think we have to bear in
mind that we are giving a small percentage of these
horrid diseases, and no chances should be taken.

Hello Nutkin,

That was my thoughts.

Thanks.
