
many of you probably know we are emigrating to Cyprus in October, my husband is [ was !] business manager for a large auto company, he thought he was being fair and handed in 2 mths notice, the next day he went into work to be told to clear his office that they were terminating his contract immediately!...........we ploughed through his employee hand book but there is no mention of notice period [ on either side], the only mention is of instant dissmissal for gross misconduct then the employee gets a weeks pay in leiu of notice.........i hardly think giving 2 mths notice fits into gross misconduct?.......however, we decided to wait to see how much pay actually went into the bank, he was paid his normal months pay,plus a week basic pay [ he resigned on the 12th] but he has 3 weeks of commission earned that has not been paid either!
....is there a statutory law that says they only need to give a weeks notice even though a longer period of notice was given?...........we are not expecting 2 mths notice pay, but think a weeks pay with no notice period a bit off, especially as its impossible to get a job fora few weeks to take us up to our leaving date!......i have ploughed through employment sites but cant find anything to help, would we be best going to C.A.B.?
