I have a six and a half month old beagle.
He started off humping a teddy I bought him, it was bigger than him - so I was told to expect it as it was a dominance thing..

Recently he is doing it more and more with this one teddy - I took it off him and his lipstick (as I call it lol) - was fully out!
I dont want to get into the habit of taking his toys from him as he does like to snuggle them at night. But I did hide this - partly because he ripped the seam and I hadnt got round to sewing it up

Tonight though, he started doing the same thing to another teddy- again large but not big if that makes sense- and again. our pops the lipstick!!!!

He hasnt sprayed anything yet (and god I hope he doesnt) but i dotn want to hide teddies. It does seem to be evening time though- never day time...?

Help- i seriously DO NOT want to neuter him

sounds like OOH TO BE that your a novice at this dog lark? Maybe I'm wrong but just read your last question about the disciplining of your pup. As you said he is 6 1/2 months old so he is developing into a young man-dog now and all his testosterone will be coming into his system, it is so normal and harmless for him to hump his toys, my dog did it up until he was 7 yrs old, til I had him neutered he would even try and get it on with the cat when he was a young lad !! LOL. I would suggest getting a good book on puppy care have a look on amazon they have absolutely loads. When I got my first dog it was really helpful into understanding there little ways and how to make them into good household pets. Best of luck... The next time your boyfriend smacks the puppy smack him! :)   

The best way to stop this behaviour is to remove the opportunity and also ignore it as much as possible, as they soon learn that they get loads of attention when they do it ;)

Some dogs hump while growing up, others seem to have a high sex drive and do it all their life.  Completely normal, if a little embarassing when people come round.  Remove his teddy and ignore and he will definately do it less often.  Sometimes it is only fluffy toys that set them off so buy him a tug toy or something instead.

It doesn't bother me.  He only favours his "Poppa Bear" and ignores furniture and human legs so I feel, go to it.  When company comes I hide Poppa Bear.  The neutered girl we had before did it all her life.
