Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Should she have stopped bleeding?

Hi there have mated one of our bitches 3 weeks ago and she is still bleeding and quite swollen
Is this normal?
She looked like she was stopping bleeding then we noticed droplets around the place and realised that it was coming from her.  She's totally happy in herself and well . now i'm worried that we totally missed it!!

We had 2 good matings with ties for about 20 mins  just getting a little concerned now!!
(Unfortunately when we bred from her last time I didn't write notes from the start of the pregnancy just at the end when she whelped and how it all went and about all the puppies.)

any one else experience this with any of their bitches?

Hi, my girl did exactly the same, her season lasted longer this time than any other season, it was just over 4 weeks.
My girl has been scanned and is definatly in whelp, she will be due in 18 days :-)

Hi, yes twice with the same bitch, both times she was clearly ready and had 3 good ties over 5 days but continued to bleed until day 30 first time and day 41! second time, both times resulted in no puppies im afraid, but obviously others have had this and had a good litter but my experience of continued bleeding has not been good.

I hope your girl is in whelp for you as i know all to well how disappointing it is!
Best of luck
Mandy x

i don't know if it's a breed thing, but all the bitches i've had have had a season that lasted 28 - 30 days, whether mated or not.

Yes my female bled for 2 weeks  after her mateing, i too thought she wouldnt have caught, she did and had her biggest litter yet 11 puppies.
Good luck i know how disappointing it is if they miss.
