Waiting for the vet to phone...
My dog was in the vets Thurs. with an injury to the leg by a stick. It was a large wound and it went into the fleshy part just in front of the back leg into the abdomen. Before getting stitched I could see into the abdominal cavity.
he had an op and needed 8 stitches.

What I need to know is how long does the bruising continue. It is not the wound bruising it is his belly. he is a big dog and the bruising startd on his thigh and seems to have spread up to his navel. the color change is worse today than yesterday and he seems quiet. I have no thermometer so can't check his temp unless the human ear ones work. waiting on the vet to ring me back but I suspect he will not be overly concerned.
I just didn't think the bruising would get worse after almost 5 days....it should be getting better from the way I understand it...
cheers

I do know with humans bruising just looks worse and worse before it starts to fade and go and can take weeks depending on person.
Sorry cant help with dog physiology, but it may be comparable.

Depending on the depth of the damage, bruising continues to develop for about a week before it starts to fade.
