Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Anyone raised puppies on Burns AND Arden Grange?
- By koolcad Date 18.08.08 22:57 UTC
Hi, Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has raised puppies on both Burns and Arden Grange - but not at the same time (!), and would be willing to give me their comments?

The reason I ask ... I've used Burns on a pup from 8 weeks, she's now nearly 18 months and I've just swopped to Arden Grange, my other dogs didn't start on Burns until nearly a year old.  I changed due to a price rise and fact I could make quite a big saving through the AG breeder club packs.  My dogs are all now on AG, but have only been on it for about 5 weeks, so we've yet to see if it suits them.  I still have this yearning to be back on Burns, but it's early days.

The protein content of AG puppy food is a lot higher than the Burns equivalent, this is something that I'm slightly concerned about, though we're a medium sized breed so maybe it's not too much of a concern.

I would welcome any comments from anyone who may have used both these products with a litter of pups and come to a conclusion which they felt was the best for their dogs.

Thank you.

Personally I think the protein content of Burns is way too low and would never feed it to my dogs without additional meat or protein of some sort.  I think of Burns complete as more of a "mixer" than a mainstay food.

ive fed burns to my puppies in the past and they never looked plump always lean and there coats were always dull so if you have to add oil for coats to shine and extra meat then you might as well buy/try another brand, i now feed pedigree small bite mixer with either mince or tin meat and they look so much better on it.

We used AG on our last litter of Tibetan Mastiff's and got the best results ever with a litter weaned and raised onto a complete food. better than Iams.  No runny tums or upsets I would use it again.

Hi ... have never used Burns so cannot comment on that food usually use Skinners which suits my adult dogs but did not suit the litter of pups ..... they were very loose and smelly so swopped to Arden Grange and could not be more pleased ..within 2 days puppies poo was firm and not smelly ..the puppies thrived on it .. i used the weaning food initially and then moved them onto the puppy junior .... hope this helps

Thanks for the replies, they're helpful.  I like the Burns and my youngster was raised on it from an early age - she's lean but she's never going to be anything but ... but she is built perfectly for her job!
I'm picking up a pup in a few weeks time so she can be my first tester of AG puppy food.  At least I'll be able to make a comparison between Burns and AG from 8-9 weeks onwards.
Thanks for your replies

I feed my dane pups on Burns High energy Lamb They love it >>>The protein level is about 26% and the stool quality is good too ....The breeder raised them on Royal Canin but i changed them over to a lower protein diet  . I find although some foods are \more expensive you dont have to feed so much
