Hi there just interested what other breeders carry in their welping kit and what they just couldn't do without.
Thanks

Sterile gloves
Disposable apron
Roll of bin bags
Clean, warm towels
Plastic tub setup as a puppy bed while mum is still whelping otherwise used to store my whelp kit
Bulb syringe for clearing airway
Dopram V
Feeding syringe
Replacement milk powder (Lactol, Whelpi)
Cotton wool pads if I have to hand rear any pups to make them go toilet
Lots of paper, i use the stuff that the chip shops have as it is large but no inky print
White vetbed, makes it easier to check for any blood
Small scissor clamps just in case the cords dont stop bleeding quick enough
Puppy scales
Notepad and pen
Digital camera for records
Plus the whelp box with infra red heat lamp clamped to the top of the whelp box
Thermostat to monitor temperature of the light and switch on and off as necessary
Digital thermometer to check the thermostat is working correctly

I am sure that there is loads of other bits lurking in the bottom of my plastic tub of stuff.

The things I could not live without is my snowsilk whelping box, they are brilliant and so easy to clean.  And the thermostat, these are used for reptiles and snakes to regulate the vivarium (I keep snakes as well, hence the idea of using it)temperature so you dont have to worry about the puppies getting to hot.

Oh I forgot one thing, lots of coffee to keep me awake while the whole thing is happening :)

Plus BOOK OF THE BITCH

Invaluable
- By pugnut [gb] Date 19.08.08 07:51 UTC
Im a member of a forum specific to my breed and a poster on there practically jumped down my throat at the suggestion of having a book as reference material! She claims books are a waste of time and money and do nothing to teach those in need of help anything!

Im guessing shes never read the Book of the Bitch!

Indeed its an invaluable part of any whelping kit, as is 'The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies' by Muriel Lee (very handy with the spiral binding!).

I believe every bitch owner, even those not planning to breed should have a copy of The Book of the Bitch.

I completely agree with you pugnut when you said that 'you believe every bitch owner, even those not planning to breed should have a copy'
Would be with out it

i agree i have both those books and always have them with me at every whelping, even though i have read them both from cover to cover numerous times!

For Welphing,

Heat light over welphing box and thermometer on side
Lined basket with hot water bottle under a piece of cream vet bed (to place pups in when mom is delivering next so they don't get wet and cold)
Towels Loads The £1.00 shop sells nice ones for rubbing the pups at a £1.00 each.
loads of news papers

In the box

Pair of forceps (clamps)
Torch
Small alarm clock (time when pups born and how long between)
Stethoscope
Thermometer
Scissors
Plastic kidney dish
Lubricating gel
iodine wipes
Dental floss
Alcohol prewipes
cotton wool balls
Gloves
Plastic apron
syringes
Puppy feeding bottle 2 sizes
Puppy milk
Black Bags
Nappy sacks
Hand wash
Pen and paper
card with vets number on
A washing up bowl with anticeptic and large sponge in.

I think that is all!!

Lol! Yes my other half always gets miffed on the run up to a litter, my bedtime reading is both these books. All i get is a grumpy "I dont know why you bother, whats the point? You must know them word for word by now?!"

Always good to refresh your memory... ;-) :-D
