hi i'am new on here so need advice,i have found out today that a breeder has had in the last 12 months 2 large litters out of her bitch.both over 10 pups each time.she has now mated the poor bitch again and she has been scanned with 12 pups.this must be wrong to mate a bitch on every season and produce over 30 pups in a little less than 18 months.what can i do, who can i report her to,what will happen to her.thanks

Is this a breeder who is registered with the kennel club? and yes it is wrong what she is doing, she is obviously just in it for the profits. who is this breeder? PM me to tell me who she is and where you found her, obviously very irresponsible

Breeders are not registered with the kennel club only litters, however she may be required to be licenced by her local council if she is having litters at this frequency so you could speak to them.  If she is licenced, or requiring one, you can then report her to the kennel club as not fitting into the "hobby breeder" category which would permit more than one litter a year from a bitch.  You could also enquire with the Breed Club if she is a member as it is likely this would be disallowed under their code of ethics.  I don't know any that will allow three litters in a row.  You may also wish to speak to the taxman who might like to look into whether the litters income and outgoings have been included in their returns.

I also don't believe that any breed clubs or registered clubs would allow three litters in a row. Are you sure this breeder is not a puppy farmer. there are many puppy farmers in exchange of mart and places like that.

Have each of these litters been registered with the KC? If so, don't expect the Kc to take any notice of a complaint from you. If they are happy to take the registration fees, they know how many litters have been produced already.

If not Kc reg, how do you know what you say is true? You need evidence.

The RSPCA will most likely not want to know. But you could try them.

She is free to breed 4 litters a year, but the local council or the tax man may be interested.

Its truely heartbreaking, to know this is happening, trying to find an organisation to take any action is almost impossible though.

it is so true the RSPCA never want to know about things like this. Even if a dog is obviously getting neglected all the RSPCA want to know is whether they have some water or food. They should be much stricter

The RSPCA can only act within the law.  Unless there is a law saying breeding on every season is illegal, then there is nothing they can do.  And the problem is that what you or I may consider to be neglect is not necessarily legally considered neglect, so again, they can't do anything about it.

unfortunately digger the sad reality is that there are many irresponsible breeders like that but if you report them they will not be interested not because they shouldnt be interested but because they need stupid "evidence". however if she is registered with the kc you may have a strong case but if she isnt then the kc most probably can't help you. I guess the best bet is to leave it or if your really concerned report her to the council.

hope this helps and good luck

If the breeder is required to be licensed (produces more than 4 litters in any 12 month period) then this is illegal and they could be reported to the Local Authority for breaking the terms of the Breeding and Sale of Dogs Welfare Act.

There is nothing actually illegal about mating bitches on every season if the breeder does not require a license even though to most people mating a bitch on successive seasons except in exceptional circumstances is morally reprehensible.

I have a book called ''Book of the bitch'' and it says that vets do not recommend breeding your bitch at every season.
It sounds cruel to breed at every season.

That is a lot of puppies.  Not illegal so no one you can report them too cruelty wise but not very kind on the bitch.
They are basically using the bitch as a cash cow by having so many litters so close together.
You could report them to the council for running a business on a residential property but not sure how much they would have to earn before they have to declare it.

The only way to stop people like this is not to buy a pup from them.  Only when they start to struggle selling the puppies will they stop.

Things like this are so very very sad and it makes my blood boil!

There should be harder laws in this country but sadly there isnt and therefore there will always be ar**holes out there who will exploit these poor unfortunate bitches that end up in their evil hands.

i would definately inform the council and the inland revenue, it may be helpful and is certainly worth a phone call.

Good for you for trying to help this poor girl :)
