My dog Toby (westie) has big red scabby sores on his belly and little scabs on his back and his skin color is turning darker (like a grey colour), i came back from holiday to find my dog Toby with these sores ( he hasnt been in kennel was at home with partner). i went mad with my partner at first as i thought it was his fault but the sores are spreading. Toby keeps nibbling at them and making them worse, i have bathed him in t-gel and have been putting savlon on every sore but he keeps licking it off so its not doing much good. For his skin he has always had a multi coloured skin pink white and black but the black skin patches seem to be taking over????? Does any one know what the problem is.

I would get him to the vets to have a check to put your mind at rest. It sounds very much like wet excema if it is wet,scabby and spreading but your vet is the best one to advise on this.
Westies do tend to suffer skin problems so it may be a multitude of things causing it, my vet who is a refferal dermatologists always says that Westies are his bread and butter. Good luck and I hope that it is soon sorted.

My old dog has just been to the vet this week with something similar, he also had a very strong smell. His was hot spots and a yeast infection. The worst sore started quite small and within a few mins the dog had made it bigger by chewing and also made it bleed along with chewing all the hair out.
He has always been prone to hot spots in the summer, but nothing like this.
The vet gave him some tablets and a shampoo. The shampoo is to be used once a week and after his first bath in it he is loads better allready :) :)

Definately a vet job though - there are so many different skin complaints and causes. The sooner you can get the right treatment the better.

With my dogs when they chew themselves a sore and get a bald patch they also get darker skin, I think it's just exposure to daylight that does it.
