It just goes to show. It's true what they say, there's nothing new under the sun. I've just seen this ad. 'Adults and Puppies of all breeds Supplied. Pedigree and First Cross. Please State Exact Requirements.'
The appalling thing is, it is from the Illustrated Sport And Country dated April 15th 1953.

Or more likely an agent.

Well, there weren't so many breeds about in those days. He was probably a middle man who obtained puppies to order. How times have changed though. The advertiser went on to give his address so that you could write to him with your requirements and asked for you to enclose a stamp for his reply.Hard to imagine in these days of e mail and everybody on the phone. Mind you, modern isn't always best, a quick look through the property section of the same magazine, (which I found, along with a pile of old Tatlers in my father's house), reveals the following; 'Georgian 4 bed house with 8 acres and 3 stables in the Cotswolds - £4,500'  '15 acre smallholding in Bexhill with modern detached residence and 1,800 square metres of greenhouses - £6,250' 'Granite cottage, 3 bedrooms, orchard and mountain views in the Lake District - £1,750. You could also have your favourite suit copied in tweed for £9.5s and buy a cashmere coat from Weatheralls for 30gns.
