I have got the most gorgeous puppy who I am desperate to keep.  However she is now 16 weeks now and she is nervous around people.  Fine with noise, other dogs anything else but if people go near her she backs right off.

I have never had this before and have been sitting down on parks with her and market days however she is still very nervous.  I could cry as she is very lovely and a fun little thing not nervous in any other way just people.

She was raised in the house both parents outgoing and friendly, raised with children and other dogs.

If anyone has any suggestions I am willing to try anything. :)

hello chloe101. Some puppies just start off very shy but with age their confidence grows. One of my dogs as a puppy was so nervous he wouldn't let people touch him but now he's a completely different dog. I find that ringcraft classes are a very good way to socialise a puppy  as they familiarise themselves with people and other dogs and their confidence grows. I do find though that a shy puppy most of time turns out to be a very confident adult and vice versa. just keep socialising her by slowly introducing her to people. a market place might be too overwhelming as there are many people so I suggest when you have a friend come over to your house get her used to your friend, when you do this reward her with treats and praise and then she will start to associate people with food and praise. do it very slowly because it is a very slow process but you will get there :)

Most pups do come out of their shell eventually.  I would recommend ringcraft as well as this way another person is going to touch her no matter how she reacts.  If she is still very nervous then you can put her on dorwest scullcap & valerian tablets http://secure.dorwest.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SV before going into situations that make her nervous.  I have used it in the past on a dog that was returned to me and would just not have anything to do with people and would start to shake, they helped him to relax without going sleepy.  I used them for about 4 - 5 weeks while training and after that he was a different dog.  Great as well for dogs that dont travel very well.

Get her eyes checked!  One of my girls would walk confidently into a room but if someone bent over her she would go for them, not in a bad way but definitely warned people off.  Found out the lenses had never developed fully at birth and although she can see most things she doesn't like people etc. that are over the top of her, she has to get to know them first before allowing them to touch her.

Well we went to ringcraft and she allowed someone to touch her head which is a miracle.  I did give her some scullcap and valarium.  For some reason she feels more secure with me so I might have to get my big bum into gear and go back into the ring.

I will defiantely get her eyes tested though as I hadnt thought of that.  She is not a breed which has eye problems so we do not test routinely.

She started off fine this developed around 10 weeks.  I am despatching her to one of my friends while I am on holiday and I am hoping this will make her snap out of it. :)
