hi just thought i would add this post as said i would let some of you know how i got on at vets today for my 2nd opinion on dels legs.
well as soon as i walked in the room she said his legs looked very bandy and not right. after feeling them she said his knees were popping out all the time and not fixed at all. i am absolutly gutted too think that my dog has been through all that and he is no better than he was. i think its strange that not even one leg has worked. my insurnace money has also ran out so any further treatments i do now have to pay for. i just dont understand why the specilaist did not just admit that the op had not worked why did he came making me trail down and pay a good £80 everytime we went down. if he had just told me the first time the op had not been sucessful rather than keep telling me he was fine. the vet also said the specialist is really good and has been al over europe doing training for this op so has had to have known dels legs were not right. just why would he not admit it and making me feel so stupid. she also said that my dog seems like a hardy dog she says he has got to be in pain she says the knee cap was just rolling all over. so why did the specialist say because my dog was not crying ment he was not in pain, to think my dog could have suffered for years if i had never got that secong opinion
anyway the vet says that del will def get arthiritus in a few years if this is not fixed she says there is to much strain on the knee. she says they could fix the problem by doing the op again but just dont know if i can put my boy through that again and pay another 3 grand for the op if it is not sucessful again.

Hi Kay, what I mean is that if you have other people who know what they are talking about stating that the leg is clearly not ok, then you would have some sort of claim against the specialist or where he works. I don't mean suing him for compensation but more along the lines of them paying for the legs to be fixed, either at his practice or with someone of your choice. It does not seem reasonable that he could be claiming things are ok if they are not.
If the last vet you saw said things were far from fine, perhaps s/he would provide a statement saying as much and if there is a vet ombudsman or regulatory body you could approach them with your grievance. It is not a situation I have ever been in but with every situation where a person feels wronged, they need the evidence to back it up or it will fall at the first hurdle. Maybe someone with more knowledge about vets and liability can add to this or even say that I am wrong!
hi thanyou, i was thinking of this myself because in my opinion he was stating the dog was fine when clearly he was not, it could have ment my dog suffering for many years because he told me the limp was no problem. i have been told to contact citizens advice as was told they would be able to direct me in the right direction. my partner rang the first vets today and asked them to forward the x rays on and they said they would not so my partner said we have every right to have them since we have payed, so we are now waiting for a call back. its just so hard to iknow were to go from here
