Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Harringtons Dry Food

I needed to buy some dry food in a hurry and whilst I was shopping at Asda, noticed a new brand called Harringtons.  It's made in North Yorkshire and has no artifical colours or flavours, no wheat, no dairy and no soya.  Apparently it's available at Tesco as well.  As it was only £3.30 for a 2kg bag (the only size available at the moment), I bought a bag.  My dogs seem to enjoy it as they quickly emptied their bowls.   The only disadvantage I can see at the moment is the size of the bags.  With three dogs, I would have to buy a couple of bags a week, but apparently, Harringtons are to produce a 5kg bag at a later date.  (Been on their website and had a quick look)

Has anyone else bought Harringtons?  What's the verdict?  I would like to hear your views to see if I can consider this as a cheaper alternative to JWB or Arden Grange.

I have bought it, like you, when I ran out of my normal dogfood.   Its half price in Tesco's at the mo but I have a bag I bought that is mouldy so I'm sending it back to them.

I emailed them to ask about what the food is preserved with and haven't got a reply yet...

I got some from Tesco's online and it was half price - less than £2.00 a bag.  I normally feed Burns but if the food is as good as Burns and cheaper then of course I would use it as an alternative.  I would have liked to have some more in depth info such as magnesium and phosphorus levels but I will call them next week and find out.

Maisie and Bill snaffled it down so they like it!

Does the label on the package explain more than is on their web site?  The ingredients include "digest", which is generally junk - and the site does not explain if it is animal or vegetable digest.

Digest: "An animal feed-grade ingredient that must be made soluble with the use of heat and moisture. Since these ingredients are not soluble in their natural state they require this manufacturing process before they can be put into pet food. An example of this would be the feet of poultry".

Poultry feet are not regarded as animal feed in the Orient, they keep them for themselves :-)

Yes, but they are generally served stuffed nicely :-)  and the claws are used afterwards to pick the sinew from between the teeth.

I have seen chicken feet offered in a few places around the world but never stuffed.

Isabel, I was kidding .. but there is a Chinese recipe where they are stuffed.

I'm sure my dog would enjoy them stuffed as well :-)
