Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / What to feed a Staffy

I have just purchased a 14 wk old Staffy Bull Terrier, what should I feed him what would be best for his diet as I don't want a podgy unhealthy pooch

So calling all Staffy owners what are your tried and tested answers?

I have tried a few different foods for my staff but have now found one I am really happy with.  I have pretty much always fed dry food apart from when I have been trying to tempt her into eating food she isn't too keen on and also occassionaly give raw food.  Ultimately it is what suits your dog best.  I can't remember back to puppy days but I think you should be feeding 4 times a day at the moment - what food was your dog on when you got him and is this the same as you are giving him now?

He was on Bakers but I have been to a few stores today and I have been told Bakers has a number of additives in their food which are equivalent to E numbers in human food.

Rather than using James Well Beloved, Hills or Burns I have sourced at Pets at Home their own brand of non additive complete food which is Wainwrights.

I am slowly weaning him onto this but thought I would see what other owners would advise

I have been told Staffys can react badly (flatulence) to wet food (tins)

I really like the Royal Canin range.

There's nowt in this world like a staffy fart ;) mine can clear a room in minutes :)  It doesn't really matter if she has dry or wet food.  Any additions to the salters food and she trumps like nothing on earth.

What do you feed yours?

dry, wet, barf, guess it is the same as any other breed of dog, i.e. find what suits your dog.
My two staffords were fed JWBelloved and Burns.
The Wellbeloved suited my bitch just fine, the Burns did not agree with my lad at all - he didn't gain any weight whatsoever.
For the sake of convenience I changed them both over to Arden Grange which so far seems to suit them down to the ground.
Really can be a case of trial and error.
Hope you find a food to suit :-)

All my staffs are on royal canin, i tried a few different foods but didnt really agree with them but since being on royal canin they coats are fantastic and they are now staying at a steady weight.

my 2 year old staff has been on wainwrights dry mixed with a little of wainwrights wet now for about 18 months and she loves it, we had her spayed and we was told "WATCH HER WEIGHT" but shes not gained a ounce, give it a go, good luck

Have to agree 100% there!!
Our new Stafford puppy is a boy and he is soooooo much worse then our Bitch Stafford!!

I feed our 2 on J.Wellbeloved Dry food and Butchers Supermeat, their coats are beautiful and shiny and they are very healthy, Wellbeloved prides itself on being made in Britain and with NO added preservatives what so ever, just good wholesome food the way we Brits like it lol :) And the Stafford is British after all lol :-D
