Hi guys my 13 week old Newfi has a problem with traveling in the car.  I take my partner to work and back everyday in the car approx 10mins drive.  When we get to work I take her for a short walk and play so she sees the car as going somewhere fun.  However no matter what time we go in the car, she both wees and poos in her crate and teh time we get there she is totally covered in it.  We have tried not giving her her breakfast before we go and also making sure she goes in the garden to do her business before we go in the car.  We have also tried taking her for a walk before going into the car so she relaxes.  She doesnt come accross as stressed in her body language and doesnt cry.  Today we even tried stopping half way and getting her to go for wee wees however nothing, then as soon as we get down the road there she wees and poos.  This happens both on the way to drop my partner off at work and then also on the way back.?  Any ideas on what I can do?  When in the house or outside in the garden she also wees then goes straight away and lies down in it.

My dogs weed and pood in the car initially  and it does appear to be stress induced, and in my experience will stop with practice i the car...she is only a little baby yet. I am not sure about the lying in her own wee though.

Hi, I don't have any idea why your puppy is doing this in the car but expect that it is anxiety related and hope that she grows out of it. Perhaps instead of stopping mid journey to try and make her toilet, line the crate with newspaper and as soon as she does anything, stop the car ASAP and whip the soiled newspaper away - at least she will stay clean. You say that she does this on the way to your partners work - I wonder, could the non driver sit with her next to her crate and keep talking to her to keep her mentally stimulated and calm, this might help divert her attention away from toileting?? Just a suggestion, ignore me if its a rubbish one lol. Good luck!

Try using DAP spray in the car about 15 minutes before the journey, this may improve her anxiety levels.
