hiya my bitch had pups on sat and today and yesterday she hasnt seemed right she been passing far bit of fresh blood with the really bad runs she did eat the placentas but they have all passed. She going to the vets tonight but not till 8 just wanted to know what others thought ?? she nt eating hardly anything she not taking much fluid either ???

You're doing right in seeing the vet, but in my experience bitches often get bad runs from having eaten placentas. (And bleeding can continue for 7-8 WEEKS after giving birth.) One even got mouth ulcers each time, seemed somehow the afterbirths etc burned her mouth. As for not wanting to ea, maybe she just feels too busy and protective? have you offered food in the whelping box so she doesn't have to leave it to eat?

Yes, offer food and water in the whelping box. As Marianne yes, it's quite normal to pass blood and get the runs, but with what you say is a fair amount of fresh blood, you're definitely doing the right thing in going to the vet.

Hello all thanks for your comments we took her to vets she said that she seemed fine in herself and her temp was normal so shes has given her a course of antibiotics and prebiotics. this morning she had a got her appetite back a little and her toilets are little bit more formed !!1 so hopefully things are on the up !! i did feel last nite when i got back from very one of her teats under her front leg felt all like lumpy and bumpy should i be worried or will the anitbiotics help with that ?
