I was planning on going on Friday. Does anything happen on the first day of the show, or would I be better going the weekend? I only ask as you say you'll be there sat/sun.
By John
Date 22.07.02 20:25 UTC
Basically the same on all days Dave. Trade stands won't have run out of anything on Friday!

Dave,
I have always found the friday to be less busy than the weekend. Then again, you will still sit in a traffic jam for hours on end, no matter which day you go
Enjoy the Fair

Not if you get up early Leigh!!!! I drove straight in last year, only hold up was going through that car wash discifectant thing, my car was white when I left home and orange when I got back Ingrid
By Leigh
Date 23.07.02 13:48 UTC
LOL .. I do get up early :D
You must have just timed it right Ingrid :P
We left at the crack of dawn and still sat in a two hour jam
Im supposed to be going on Sunday with other half and Daughter but don't fancy sitting in a traffic jam for 2 hours dosen't help being 33 weeks pregnant as I need the loo every 15 mins.
Anyone have any ideas the best time to leave im coming from Godalming which is near Guildford.

Leigh I didn't get up that early :), left here at about 7.30am and arrived and 9am, took me a bit longer to get home cos I got stuck in slow moving traffic on the M25 coming past Heathrow. Must have been very lucky.
Karen, I live just down the road from you in Sussex, planning to leave about the same time this year and hope for the best. Ingrid

hi i live in between aldershot and guildford.it will take me about 1 hour down the m3, or you could go to alton and winchester then pick up the m3,m27.we got to be there bty 8,30am.so we be leaving about 7.15am,?

Last year , which was an extreemly hot day, 3 children and no air conditioning, I navigated my way around the back roads and bypassed the horrendous traffic jam. So I suggest taking a good map.

I'm not sure if I'll bring a hound along with me or not - depends on the
weather as a heatwave is forecast. Well I'll wear a 't' shirt with either
a Pharaoh head on it or one with various hounds on. To spot me:
I am 5' 4'' and am plump! I have dark brown hair to ear level - with a
few grey streaks at the sides! I wear glasses / gold coloured rims.
Anyway I'll try to find the gundog tent!
Luckily I have a nice short journey (unless I get stuck in a traffic jam).
See you Sunday, hopefully.

It was WAY WAT TOO HOT for dogs on Friday. I saw people walking about with a newfy, a malamute, a sammy......what on earth posesses these folk to take a dog to a hot busy place on a day like that?
By Dawn B

I went Friday, and there was a message over the tannoy for someone to return to the carpark, as their dog was getting distressed in the car!!
And why is the gundog tent always so small? You never get room to have a nice walk around, pet the dogs etc. Not to mention the fact that it gets a bit warm and smelly.
I agree it was way too hot - and yes the gundog tent is far too small!!!
I ended up going at short notice .... involved in the Good Citizens Scheme .... only Banya's second show.
Some of us went in convoy .... via Lyndhurst, Cadnam, to Romsey - very little traffic and no queues at all this way, at 10 am anyway ;).
Too b***** hot, officially the hottest day of the year. The car park we were in, B, was an hour's walk away from the dog area....we were pooped, exhausted, tired, cross and hot!!
Spoke to a few people involved in gundog stuff, saw a few Flatcoats and maybe even Jo but wouldn't have realised who it was!! (Sorry Jo :) )
All i can say is, thank God for the stand pipes everywhere, and the great leafy shade just by the scurry events .....it saved our day....if anyone saw a group of dogs including a Flatocat, Beardies, BSd, CKCS, and a tomato faced woman, under the trees, it was me....just knackered!
Managed to get a great reflective coat from Countrymun though :) :) :). Banya even got measured up for the best fit so probably better than buying online.
I saw Newfies etc. too - out in the sun. NOt fair!! Apart from our little demo, we just stayed in the shade. Loos and icecream van, plus standpipes were close by so it was a good spot.
I stilll feel as if I am recovering...I had no idea it was so big. I thought the New Forest show was big but.....
I shall shut up now as i am waffling...blame it on the heat :D :)

Thanks Sam, i do think Countrymun does the best ones! :)
Seems like a quality garment, you know?
Thanks for recommending them :)

Well Lindsay all I can say is Banya is lovely, reading your message I just realised that we were sat almost opposite you watching the scurries for quite a while and I commented on the Belguim Shepherd, sorry didn't notice the owners, too busy looking at the dogs !!!! I didn't bring any of mine with me, far too hot, but there did seem to be an awful lot of newfies & bernese wandering about looking very fed up. I really wish I had come over and said hello to Banya but it was too hot to move. Ingrid

I went yesterday, Sunday.
I met Briedog with her spanish water dogs & Jo with her flatcoats &
Shula (UKShowdogs) with field spaniels.
Also watched some of the horses, side saddle, Morgan horses & Quarter horses in the display ring. Took plenty photo's of the birds of prey.
Sat and watched some clay pigeon shooting & air rifle target shooting.
Plus browsed around some of the trade stands. (Had 2 freebie glasses
of punch in the ? dog food tent).
I was hot but it's been even hotter today, Monday.
32 celsius 90 Fahrenheit but the humidity makes it worse.
Luckily my Pharaoh Hounds like the warm weather & sunbathe a little
then come back indoors have a little drink and flake out again !
But they hate the cold & rain.
Tommorrow, Tuesday, I'm going to the first day of the 3 day Christchurch
& New Forest Show - Hounds & Gundogs day - held at the same showground at Brockenhurst as the Bournemouth Ch. Show.
Zara is entered in her first 10+ veteren & Yonnie in A.V.N.S.C. Open
both under judge Liz Cartledge - she judged our breed club championship
show a few years ago - so should know about Pharaoh Hounds !
Pam - hot & bothered in Hampshire !

have a good time at the show, glad you enjoyed yourself at the cla and nice of you to come over to see me, gollie and jo
Weren't the quarter horses brilliant - did you see them do all the stuff with the bridle off? All those revolutions? I was enthralled, and it made a good place to stop on the way back to the car park and eat an ice cream too!!
Lindsay
Good luck for the New Forest show - is the Dog Snow still with the rest of the show, as i had heard they were going to move it?
I usually go to that too, but over the weekend some b****** nicked our debit cards and have been spending all our money, so we won't have any money to go anywhere until at least Wednesday when the building society have sorted it out.....:(
The cards got nicked in the post, the roual mailbag was nicked!!! Grrrrrrrr!!!

For those who thought it was too far to travel to the CLA Game Fair, there is a good game fair coming up on the 10 and 11 August. Lowther Horse Driving Trials, near Penrith. It's not as big as CLA but it's definitely worth going if you live nearby.

Now what did you call me ........ it sounded like witch didnt it :D
We had a real storm about 5-5.30 and the roads were flooding on the way home from work. Not used to this - used to Central London where even the snow doesnt settle cos of the underground heating in the offices etc !!!!
lol Gina :)
HI Ingrid :)
Aw thanks so much for saying Banya is lovely, of course I think so but then I am biased :D
She would have loved to say hallo to you but I know what you mean about the heat and being too hot to move!!! Oh yes!!!
ONce i get hot, my face just stays red for ages and that is that, nothing can be done!!! I think you were very wise not to bring any of yours with you, you probably had a calmer day without worrying about them :)

Lindsay she is such a lovely colour, I'm really miffed now that I didn't come over and speak to you, oh well next time I will recognise Banya hopefully. If I had bought the boys they would have been very wet, that stream looked so inviting for them, all the dogs seemed to be having such fun in it. We were lucky got the car parked quite close to the entrance and no traffic queues in or out. Sorry to hear you lost your cards, I can never understand why the aren't sent recorded delivery at least. Ingrid
She is much more "blondey"than my first 2, who had a rich red colour - just beautiful - but she is officially known as "red with black mask"....I think she will change colour a bit as she grows :) Please do come and say hi another time, you may recognise me dawg if not me :)
My friend with her Flatcoat and Goldie spent quite a bit of time in the stream, the dogs i mean, not her!! :D
And next time we get new cards, we will be picking them up ourselves from the branch! WE have learnt our lesson!!
