I have a very fussy dog, he has been this way all through puppyhood. I have tried many different brands of complete food and have added the likes of tripe, sardines, egg etc etc on top, he loves eating this and then suddenly stops. I was just didn't know what to do as a large breed dog growing i was worried about him missing out on his vital nutrients.
Anyway about 1 month ago i took the plunge and went onto a BARF diet, he was doing so well, putting on weight, more settled in his personality etc, so only plus points on this. In the past week or so he has turned his nose up at all the meat, fish etc i would normally feed. I soon realised that feeding another one of the dogs in the same room would mean to would have to complete for the food. which worked for the first few days He never bothered and never touched anything.
He has mixed mats and bones from the butcher, so chicken, lamb etc and of course offal.
I know he is in fine health, i am not changing his diet again.
If he hasn't eaten his meal after 10 mins it gets picked up and thrown away.
I have put the dairy side of things down and he will eat this, turns his nose up at the veggies..
He can't live off Dairy..
Any ideas??? I am happy for him not to eat for up to 3 days, after that then i would worry, he has picked at bits today, so i know he is eating something at the very least. Just want him to go back eating to eating the way he was when he went onto this diet.
He is exercised before all meals and is fed about 1 hour after exercise to prevent bloat in the hope that this increases his appetite.
