Hi jimboddb
I too have a baby DDB (8 and a half months) and have started to show him just at local companion shows. Although I have my first open this weekend in North Wales and am dreading it, I only entered because someone I spoke to at one of the companion shows mentioned this open show to me as they are having DDB classes. I thought it would be good to compare him against other DDBs, although depending on how he behaves on Saturday we might stick to companion shows in the future.
His name is Louis and he is far too excitable to be seriously showed yet as most members of both the ringcraft clubs I take him to will tell you!!! Although a few people have mentioned to me that he looks to be a good dog and moves quite well when he is not bouncing around like Tigger!
You will have to let me know how you get on in any upcoming shows.
Regards
Lindsey

Hi Lindsey,
Is it Ruthin show you have entered?? If so, we will be there with our St. Bernards, so come and say hello. We also used to have a DDB.
Try not to "dread" the show, just enjoy yourself.

Hi KazzF
It is the Ruthin show we are going to. I don't know whether we will be there early enough to see the St. Bernards as you are in the same ring as us but 1st in and there are 9 other breeds to be shown between yours and ours. If the weather is OK I will probably be there early to try and pick up as many tips from other people that I can get, however, if as is forecast it is raining I dont fancy standing around in the wet for a few hours with the ring being outside. If you see someone very early for the DDB classes looking lost it will be me ;o)
I am not dreading it as such - it can't be as bad as last weekends companion show where as I was entering the ring he managed to escape his slip lead and run around the ring having a whale of a time for about 5 minutes before I managed to catch him (the shame!!!).
I was told by the steward that this was certainly a different way to catch the judges attention!
I will try and find you if I am there early enough
Lindsey

Ooh say hello to my friends Les and Lynda with the Spanish Water Dog. They'll be taking the photo's as well as Les is a DW photographer. Good luck at the weekend!

Thats brilliant, a puppy is meant to be fun!! my fellows very calm thank god, a right slob already. Whats line does your boy come from? i read alot about the breed becoming too popular for its own good in the UK, true?

I know in Manchester there were some very suspect breedings going on and not with the same breed! I think that things have improved greatly now though thankfully, since they were put on the full KC register.

My Bulldog went into the ring stood nicely, started to relax anyway stood her in front of the judge, all going well.
Judge put hands on Blossom , and she flips over onto her back and growls to be tickled. She would not get up.
In the end I picked her up not easy 25kilos and let the ring. Never showed her again.
But her daughter is a different story.

Jimboddb,
As has been stated the breed is becoming far too popular with many an unscrupulous breeder breeding from dogs which have not been health checked in any way - and these breeders still have the cheek to charge similar prices to those decent breeders who are trying to look after the breed.
We bought Louis from a breeder who is also a judge of the breed and a committee member of the DDB club of great britain. Louis' sire was Vecthom Notorious Biggie who has alreaday qualified a number of times for Crufts (a whole lot for his son to live up to!!!) and he is an absolutely lovely looking dog whose lines include NED CH Brandouxs Toezz. Louis' dam is Cairnshaw Dallas Signorina who was bred by the same breeder that we bought Loius from, and her lines include SPAN CH Upsy De L'aube Rouge.

I think due to the small number of DDBs around in this country until recently many of them might be related in some distant way.
The breeder who we bought Louis off is called Shaun Cairns and his kennels name is "Cairnshaw". I think at the minute he is vice chairman of the DDB club of GB and as said previously he is a judge of the breed, so we believed him to be someone who knows what they were talking about when we started looking into getting a pup. Who was your pups breeder? I am afraid I don't know many of the dogs around in this country yet let alone northern ireland as I am still just starting out in the expanding world of DDB.

ya i know cairnshaw dogs, nice dogs & a very good choice. Mines mostly brandoux but was bred in ireland, toezz is my dogs great grandfather on the sires side.
Your right bout them all being very close but there's huge differences in dogs, far too many 'masssive' dogs around at the moment. Far too heavy but some people seem to like that look, theres no way any of these dogs could work in reality.

sadly, yes. :(
I have seen a lot about with poor conformation - and had a bloke inform me he had got his puppy out of the ad trader.....
