my little pug Lulu isnt quite 5 yet. when she was 2 she had a slipped disc resulting in cage rest etc for weeks, then we were told she had hip problems so operation etc which seems to have left her severely disabled, then pyometra resulting in spay. This morning I took her to vets as she has woke me up last 2 nights to go out and wee, they have just phoned and confirmed her bladder is bursting with stones and she will need an op tommorrow. I cannot believe it I feel so sorry for her, I love her to bits (except snoring!) she is such a sweet little character, I give her quality food and keep her weight down. This has seriously made me think I wouldnt want another one although she is so great. can other pug peeps tell me if this is just bad luck??

Sorry to hear about Lulu. :( Hope all goes OK with her op.

I'm not a pug person - but I didn't think they were a breed particularly know for ill health, bar having short faces and snuffly breathing - it sounds like bad luck to me. Either that or she was very badly bred. If there's no pug people on here you could try googling for the pug breed club and find some contacts on there and have a chat with them about the health problems maybe. :)

Poor little Lulu :(

I have 2 pugs of around a year old who have had very little wrong with them.

On the other hand I have 2 Chow Chow's that came from a New Zealand show kennel, both parents were champions,  1 uncle was Australian Grand Champion and the other uncle was BOB for whole of New Zealand. My boys have had multiple surgeries starting from 5 months of age, elbows, eyes, both Knees both dogs, lumps, retained testicles, the list goes on.

I relly think it is luck of the draw as in my case good breeding stood for nothing
