Topic Other Boards / Foo / Dog friendly beaches in North Norfolk
- By melster122 Date 17.07.08 10:04 UTC Edited 17.07.08 10:12 UTC
Off to North Northforlk (between Holt and Fakenham) on 25th July.  I am going with my children and dog and a friend, her kids and dog.

Can anyone recommend any beaches that allow dogs during the summer?

Thanks

Holkham does.  It's approx 4 miles long and very wide at low tide!  It also has a pine tree walk along the dunes if the weather is too hot (chance would be a fine thing).  But it may be a bit far for you.  Presume you mean August - lol.

Thanks for that.  We are going next week so it is the 25th July.  Sorry for confusion.  Will see how far that is from us.

Must learn to type better lol

Holkham is literally 2 miles away from Wells-Next-The-Sea (also has a brilliant beach - they have a designated doggie area too!) and Wells is 10 miles from Fakenham!  And Holt is around 10 miles from Fakenham (depending on which way you go.  Wells has a great marshland which also good for dogs - lots of lovely thick gooey knee deep mud!!  There is also the Pinewoods that is dog friendly with a boating lake with canoes for hire, trampolines, crazy golf etc and a cafe so depending on the age of your children and your friend, there is plenty to do and you have to pass the dog friendly part of the beach to get to it!! ;-)

You are also not far from Sheringham and Cromer although I dont know whether their beaches are dog friendly.

Whereabouts are you going?  That part of North Norfolk is fantastic (can you tell I come from Wells!!)  So if you want any more info on the area, ask away!!

My mum lives in Heacham near the lavender fields and I know Heacham beach lets dogs on it all year round.

Kerrib.  Thanks for all that info.  We are staying in a cottage in Kettlestone.  We are really looking forward to it.  We are going with 4 children.  Two are 13 and two are 9.

I was at Holkham last week and it really is one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen in this country.  You can also take dogs on some of the boats that go from Blakeney to see the seals which your children will love.

Thanks everyone.  I am really looking forward to it now.  Just hope the weather is ok :)

Have at least part of a day at Sandringham, you can't take dogs round the house/gardens but ther are MILES of the estate all round the visitor centre/cafe where you can let dogs and kids all run loose, great.

Weybourne has a lovely dog friendly beach.  You very rarely get bathers there, mostly dog walkers.  It is only about 7 minutes from Holt and 10 from Sherringham.

Edited to add - sorry I read Sherringham and not Fakenham.

Sorry for hijacking, but I enjoyed this thread also, we will be staying in a GameKeepers cottage in Edingthorpe (I think) which states that its not far from Sherringham, I think our cottage is also in a National Trust area and not to far from Bacton Beach.  We are going on Saturday for a week, so looking forward to some nice long walks with Floyd.

just back from taking 'hairy hooligan' out for the day round Sandringham estate, he is now zonked out:-D,
place I forgot to mention is Holme next the sea, miles of dog open beaches and if you go onto the beach from the car park, turn right and walk up the beach there is a stream/river that runs down across the beach, ideal for paddling, dog playing etc.
If you are in that area next week high tide is about 3.30pm on Mon 28th and about an hour later each day - when the tide goes out round wash/N Norfolk coast it goes waaay out. Have a good holiday.

Hi Melissa, glad you had a brilliant time, we did too, must admit didn't do an awful lot, Bacton Woods was our main attraction, beautiful place.  We did take Floyd to the beach early one morning, I'm glad it was early morning as well, Floyd's first time on the beach, he absolutely loved it and kept diving into the sea, but I'm afraid to say by the time he was having his 4th pooh it was near on straight sea-water, I'm just glad I took a whole packet of pooh-bags with me, so we decided that one colonic irrigation (sp) was enough for him.  Where we stayed was in a wood in a Game Keepers cottage with 2 big empty fields that he loved tearing round at 6am in the morning and just before it got dark at night, I would certainly go back again.
