Topic Dog Boards / Health / time between vaccinations

Does anyone know what time period needs to lapse between a rabbies booster and normal vaccinations?

I know they should not be administered at the same time as other jabs, but I don't know the safe period between.  Might be worth asking a homeopathic vet as they are usually more careful than conventional vets about safety with vaccines.

Thuja given before and after any vaccination will help prevent any adverse reaction too.

I think some vets would do them at the same time. For my dogs I would leave at least a month between. But you really need to ask your vet. :-)

The protoccol from the vaccine companies are all the same for rabies vax-they should not be given at the same time as other vaxs

Maybe - but I have had friends get them done at the same time. Personally I wouldn't.

It says recommended - not must. :-)

And this one says it is OK to administer with their other vaccine components - just not with other companies - as it has been tested with their own presumably. :-)

Definitley should not be administered at the same time as other vaccines.  Rabies and Lepto are the two most likely vaccines to cause adverse reactions, so it stands to reason not to pump too many chemicals in at once.

Not sure of the concept of a double reaction and, if you are fearful of these things, you could consider that you are doubling the occasion when it might happen if you vaccinate seperately :-)  I think I would be happy to be guided by the manufacturers who know the product best.

I didn't say a double reaction, but that rabies and lepto vaccines are the most likely vaccines to cause adverse reactions, so it stands to reason not to administer them at the same time. Although doubling the dose of poison probably does = double the reaction as you righty said !

Actually, I said I could not see that at all :-)   Adverse reaction are not the same as poisoning, you either respond to whatever component you are sensitive to or not and if you do I don't see any value in spreading them over two occasions of risk.  The only thing that would inhibit there use together is if one vaccine was harmful to the other ie a live one, but the manufacturers guidance should cover that.
