About 6 weeks ago I noticed a small lump on my boys back ( 3yr small breed). I took him to the vet, who said it was a follicular cyst. Vet said that he may be prone to them now and didn't want to remove it unless it grew bigger or caused problems. He also said it may erupt and secrete a chalky substance and to clean with saline water if this happens.
I check it regulary and there doesn't seem to be any change, maybe very slightly larger, but cannot be sure. No eruptions yet.

Has anyone else had experience of these?  I'd appreciate any advice. Many thanks

My girl quite often gets these cysts on her back or ocasionally on her neck,  the vet also advised me to leave them alone, they do eventually burst and secrete a white milky substance I bath them with salty water when this happens and she also cleans them herself is she can reach them.
She,s five years old now and probably had two or three a year but they,ve never caused her any problems so far I,d just keep a close eye  on them and don,t be tempted to burst them yourself.

Thanks Sharon. You've put my mind at ease.  He did have a tiny one also on his side, but the vet squeezed that one, he said because it had a head on it.

one of my boys gets these quite frequently. They come up, stay there for a while and drain when they are ready which can be several weeks/months. until then i leave them alone. When they drain, i usually clip back a bit of hair (long coated) wash it with salt water which cleans and gets the rest of the gunk out. then in 48 hours there is usually no trace of there even being a problem. skin flat and back to normal! He only has to go to the vets if there is a sign of an infection (redness/excessive weeping etc)
hope it all works out okay.

One of my dogs had one for over a year.  It did not resolve by itself and ended up getting (more) infected and bleeding continually, so he needed it removed.
