Quite a few months ago I wrote about Melvyn, my pomeranian. He is 5 years old in September and has never mated a bitch. Someone recommended a man to us who is brilliant at mating dogs and Mel was in the house for about 2 minutes and had no problems at all. Now we've just got the 9 week wait. I hope everything works at OK. He has had a couple of res. CC's and is a wonderful example of the breed.

Please wish us luck.

Good luck! I hope everything goes well. Pom pups must be tiny! Do you actually own the bitch as well?

We do own the bitch as well. She's 5 yrs. old, it's only her second season and she's never had pups before.

They certainly are tiny pups. Your are lucky to get two and over the moon if you get 3 and they weigh between 2 and 3 ozs.

We've just got back from having the second mating so fingers crossed.

Wishing for the patter of tiny paws for you, fingers crossed :)

Best of luck Diane!

You have my admiration Marie. From poms to bullmastiffs (and Berries :-)) is quite a step! Think I'd be terrified of anything so tiny and 'breakable' as a baby pom :-)

Good luck with the mating, I hope it results in puppies, my friend breeds poms, and I know they do not have big litters sometimes only 1 or 2, but her bitches nearly always need a ceaserean just keep in touch with your vet, and get her vet checked when its nearer the time to welp. not trying to take away the pleasure of getting your bitch mated, but, I would have thought 5 years of age was too old for a first litter, please take care.

You say your bitch has only had two seasons? Did I read
that correct!?
Take care if this is your bitches first litter at 5.

I believe it's the dog that is 5, not the bitch.

No, the bitch is 5 too- they're both 5 years old- it's the first time the dog's been mated and the bitch has only had 2 seasons:confused:

I have been in the breed for 20 years and had them health checked by the vets. Not everybody just breeds for money etc. I do know the problems that can happen and haven't just jumped into it.

For the people who think it's all fun and easy to breed pup's, think again.

Rhea started last night 11.35, at vets 12.35, 3 hours later £300.00 bill, 2 dead puppies and a bitch who had to be spayed!!

Luckily Rhea is a bit sleepy but looks fine.

I wish things had gone better for you and your Bitch. I'm glad though that she made it through and seems to be doing well. I agree breeding can be anything but "fun". I do hope that if you breed again in the future that you're blessed with a nice healthy litter.

Thinking of you and yours,

Carissa

Please accept my sympathy too I had a similar situation with a yorkie ended up losing them all breeding is risky at any time but more so with tiny breeds.
Best Wishes

Well we've managed to use him again, so let's keep our fingers crossed again, only 8 weeks to go now. I'll be a nervouse wreck by then.
