I am seriously considering buying an English Pointer. I just love the look of them but don't know a lot about them! I have had two gundogs in the past my last being an Irish Setter. He slobbered like there was NO tomorrow and was thick as a brick. I can put up with the thickness but there is no way I can put up with slobber again. Does anyone own E.P's that could enlighten me as to whether they slobber - obv salivate if hungry, hot etc, but I mean just slobber for no reason. Thanks - also, heard they are quite intelligent as breeds go?????

You had a thick setter?  I've never met one of those!  All mine are too smart and learn something once and thats it!  Very hard to train as they do their OWN thing!

As for Pointers as they tend to have droopy flews I think they do drool abit but it does alot of the time depend on the individual dog!  Out of my setters we have 2 that drool for no reason, 3 thats drool for food and 1 who doesn't drool!
