The norm is the left but you may have to go on the right as pointed out by JG, It's highly important you teach the dog to trot on both sides!!!
Same with standing, dogs head normally in your right hand (If you dog is, or would be stacked) but get the dog use to facing the other way too :) Useful if you stand on a downward hill or dog infront has turned round to prevent males "eye-balling"

Sorry for delay, just got back from a break in Cornwall
Adding to previous, the coat markings on the dog can make a huge difference from one side to the other/ on a windy day dogs usually show better when facing into the wind (especially the boys"they dont like it whistling around their nether regions")/always face your dog uphill even on the slightest slope, the front & shoulders look tons better/puppies or dogs with a lighter eye then perfect, face them into bright light (sometimes known as the Sun)/ any distraction such as balloons overhead etc let the dog face it rather than a wrestling match trying to get them to face the right side.
If the judge asks you to move your dog up & down twice, there is a good chance they will move to one side on your 2nd pass jsut glance over your shoulder to check, if necc. change sides with the dog for the return so the judge gets a clear unintrrupted view of the lateral movement.
