Hi all, I haven't posted on here for some time, but I am after some advice. My apologies if this subject has been done to death, if so, could someone point me in the right direction?

On Friday I am meeting a Samoyed bitch that we are considering giving a home to. As some of you know, we already have 2 bitches, an Alaskan Malamute and a Cavalier. The Sammy is 9yrs old so is not a bouncy young pup or anything. My Cavalier is brilliant with other dogs and really friendly, but the Mal doesn't particularly like others - having said that, we had a male Cavalier round a few weeks ago who she was fine with after some initial hackle-raising and wariness.

I will have a Sammy expert with me when we introduce the dogs, but I'd be really grateful for any tips/experiences that anyone can offer me? I'm really hoping this goes well on Friday as I would really like to give this girl a home, depending on how she gets on with my two! Plus I have FINALLY convinced the OH that three dogs (four in the New Year when we get our puppy) is a great idea!! :-)

We brought Hattie home ( a 6 month old sbt cross) and introduced her to our 2 older staffys by taking them all on a walk to the woods- mine love that walk and after the initial *hellos* whilst on lead they were more interested in the walk after that. When we all came home they were all fine as they had already been introduced
Just watch out for any much loved toys/food bowls etc if they all go inside as issues may arise then depending upon what they are both like

Good luck by the way

Thanks Lel, that's much appreciated. The walk thing would be a great idea but sadly we can't take our Malamute out for walks as she has a rare condition that makes her really poorly when she gets excited, and even the shortest walk or run in the garden leaves her so out of breath - so introducing may be a little difficult. We could take her outside the house onto the road (we live at the end of a no through country road so no traffic) but it would still be on 'her' territory, if you know what I mean. My friend brought her dog round once and although Samoui was not very friendly initially, after a while she just ignored him, so I'm hoping she will be the same with the Sammy - I really hope so as there's such a sad story behind her and we want to make her last few years the best we can for her! :-)

By the way your Staffy on your avatar is lovely. My aunt used to have one very similar, he was a gorgeous dog.

Well we now have a Samoyed :-) :-) The introductions went well, the Mal wasn't keen at first but we took them for a little stroll and she was fine. Megan (the Sam) is staying the night tonight and hopefully staying for the rest of her life now. She is such a sweetheart, her and Gypsy the Cavalier are getting on just fine so far...It's sad though as Megan is so fat at the mo, she's bascially been on a dire combination of beef burgers, sausages and no exercise!! But all that is set to change. I'm delighted, I have wanted a Samoyed of my own for ages, we're getting a puppy in January but I just had to give this girl a home. My OH loves her too so it's so far so good! We had to laugh before, our Malamute was drinking from the pond as usual and Megan went to investigate and fell in, well Samoui (the Mal) went straight in after her, then to top it off our Cavalier had found some mud in the garden so we had 3 filthy wet dogs!!! Wouldn't have it any other way though :-)
