Hi,
Has everyone noticed a drop in entry figures for your breeds at recent champ shows??? Mine being golden retrievers, i have noticed a significant drop recently. Blackpool only has 239 which i didn't expect as we have 2 good judges who are known to be fair, and south wales is 159.............this is the lowest i have EVER seen it! It is quite usual for our entries to be 300+. With the cost of fuel rising and the cost of living, it does seem to be hitting people and most are now entering the places they stand best chance of doing something.........thats my opinion anyway!

Someone in Dog World today suggested that breeds should have CCs all over the country to stop them having to travel too far. I don't think that will work do you? The same ones will probably just mop up more.
CKCS at S.Wales are below 200, very low indeed.

My breed, or rather the variety I have of it, has plummeted in recent years :(
It used to be mainly the Scottish or SE shows which had poorest support but the last few years entries have worsened nationwide and I think we're in danger of losing a lot of CCs if the trend continues :( We've already lost around 5 sets in recent times and I think that's going to be the minimum lost next time numbers are evaluated.
Talking to other exhibitors/breeders etc it seems to be pretty much affecting all breeds at champ level and so probably has more to do with fuel costs etc making it less affordable for a lot of folks.
Our breed is losing entries , i think it has to do with fuel costs and champ show entries going up, lots of people i know instead of entering 4 dogs only enter 1 or 2.
Peanuts

They've been pretty high most of this year, but actually I did note they were pretty small at Windsor - probably find our Limit class has 20 and the alternative Open class only has 3 though. :-)

I've decided that i can't afford to go all around the country attending shows, i have done Malvern twice this year and with fuel prices still climbing i don't think i'll be going back next year. Think i'll be sticking to the more local shows in the south east, so spending more time at open shows.
For me the entry fee for 1 dog isn't breaking the bank but putting the fuel costs on top as well means i can't afford to travel.
With the way things are i'm not sure i'm going to attend another champ show until the end of the year, which is a shame.
I understand what someone said about the same dogs taking the CC's if there were more shows giving them out, but we do need to keep them going for the breeds that still have them or we will loose them for the declining entries.
If we do this then those who aren't travelling now won't if they remain regional, though there will be less competition and you'll be against the same dogs again and again, i like seeing different competition out in the ring.

I also wonder if entries are lower this year in the Gundog group as there are more gundog days falling on week days this year. I noticed that in Clumber spaniels at Windsor there are just over 30 dogs entered, but at SWKA there are 58 entries which is quite high for Clumbers. We have certainly been to less Championship shows this year so far mainly due to work commitments

SWKA might have a drop due to the World Show?
Also, I show far less dogs at Ch Shows now than say 10 years ago due to the cost of entry. I can't justify taking my veteran to a Ch Show at £23 a pop. There certainly was a time in my first breed where people would take 6 dogs to show, now are only take half if not less than that.
I can only see entries dropping & dropping from now on in, what with the fuel costs etc.
