Hi Again,
SOrry to start antoher post, but whilst i was lookin on the internet today for companies that delviered nutro i found this
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html. Now i dont no how true it is or anything and i was thinking of moving my 9month Lab off Nutro due to its sourcing issues, but i wondered if anyone had any insight into the above link?
I must admit im slightly concerned now and i know you shouldnt believe everything you read, and that is the only bad thing ive ever seen about Nutro, but i think i will be changing foods now.
HELLLPPPP!!!!

What I found really interesting about this is that an outbreak of Salmonella in people has been linked to dry dog food. People preparing their dogs meals before their own were passing salmonella on to themselves and their families.
So apparently - whatever you feed your dog - wash your hands, counters and utensils before handling anything for people.

That makes quite scary reading!! I changed from Nutro last year as it was getting v. expensive even buying in bulk. I now feed Skinners f&t salmon and rice and touch wood it seems to be suiting my lot quite well although I am having to feed more that I did of the Nutro.
Does anyone know if this is just american dog food? Have any incidents been recorded with British produced food? or, any other brands of American dog food that is affected. There is a lot im[ported now, makes you think again :(

calmstorm i think nutro is imported from america produced and packaged which probabaly is why it is now so damn expensive. Im not sure if anythign like this has happened to Bristish produced dog foods. It is very scary reading, but you never know how true these things are but it still means i will be using the last of hte Nutro i have as it could be a batch thing or such like and ive got enarly 10kg thriough the bag so i think shell be fine, well i hope she will be and ill be changiong to something else.
I also read on Nutros website that they have been taken over by none other than Mars Inc, another reason i wont be buying it :)

Nutro is imported prepacked from the USA. It has recently been bought out by pedigree (mars inc). there are now plans to make this product in the UK near Birmingham ( I think) I am good friends with a Nutro rep and will ask him and post what he says.

As do Royal Canin & James Wellbeloved but it hasn't affected them.

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/This gives detailed food analysis on all complete foods.
From what the link says if you do complete then go for a grade 4 and above, though seems all of the grade 6's are American and i couldn't find a supplier over here for them.
The highest i could find was Arden Grange which is in the 4 category..
Well worth reading through.

Why what do you have againsts Mars inc? Do you not consume anything they produce youself aswell?

I read on another forum, that a class action has been raised against Nutro, and others, in the USA.
Apparently, dogs have become ill and died after eating this food.

Not sure if they apply to the UK though.
On first sight the site appears to be a "Which" consumer type thing, with the reviews and what have you, but only the "Editors" post reviews and allocate grades. The "Editors" are just a group of like minded people posting their opinions on their own website rather than a forum such as this. They have not even tried the foods only read the ingredients.

I believe that the grading goes on the ingredients in the food, so in turn the quality of the food is graded.
It does cover most of the foods we have over here, seeing as most are initially American brands anyway.

Definately that is what they are doing, they explain this in their FAQ but they have not
tried the foods at all and their opinion as to the quality of the food based on what they can read into the ingredients is of no greater value than anyone elses opinion it's just they have forked out for a website to express it.
There is nothing official or even consumer led about this website despite the impression it appears to give. It is just someones opinion. Your own "grading" would be just as relevent :-)
Although many of the foods carry the same brand names I think the recipes do vary when manufactured in different countries.
Hi all,
Nutro has been bought by Mars as stated before and they are no longer going to be suppiling premium petfoods, who are currently distributing Nutro in this country. Mars will be importing themselves, so looks as though it will start becoming more mainstream and available. I have no idea if the recipe will be altered.
Premium petfoods have developed their own dog food which will be be manufactured in the UK under the name "simply" (I think). It will be on the market soon and was described to me as a bit like nutro but with more meat.
Keep your eyes peeled!

If you read the bag it is as good as a bag of rice I think..
i don't think it was too bad, i had my poodle and bichon on it and they were ok. I suppose its not bad in comparison to others!! I need to use a lamb based kibble as their skin doesn't don't do well with chicken

Adult lamb and rie ingreedients as follows;
Dried Lamb Meat (min. 26%), Ground Rice (min. 26%), Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Sunflower Oil (min. 3.5%), Poultry Fat, Rice Gluten, Dried Egg Product, Beet Pulp, Potassium Chloride, Dried Kelp, Salt.Doesn't look bad to me!
