Does anyone know how to get rid of brambles and stinging nettles without the use of dangerous sprays?
Our garden is half covered in brambles with stinging nettles growing up in between.
I did cut some of it back but obviously it has grown back. Other than digging all of it up which is a lot of garden is there any other way as alot of the garden is curremtly un-usable.

Sorry only know using secaters or burning the roots out, same problem garden looks good then ( hold it) spot a triffid bramle out the top of a tree.. THat and raspberries, we destroyed them, had a bonfire on them and there are hoards of them again..

No idea but if you find out let me know lol!  I don't have many but one side of my greenhouse is infested with 3/4ft stingers at the mo, and brambles come through my hedge and get me when I'm trying to cut it back.

I don't mind some stingers - they are (I think) the sole food for cabbage white butterfly caterpillars, so I like having some.  But it's more like the pointy amazon at the moment! :-P

The only way to get rid of them without resorting to spraying them is to get every single little bit of root out by digging and sifting through the soil. A very hard job indeed. Leave even the tiniest bit of root and it will take root, even the stems that touch ground anywhere will root. Did you know that if you cut brambles, they will come back quicker?You need to feel your way to the bottom of the stem and pull it up like that.:)
Same with stinging nettles, better off pulling rather than cutting. In big patches their roots form a dense mat just under the surface of the soil. :(

we had a small platt covered in brambles about 8 feet high. Took a brush cutter to it, cut it all down, then rotovated it and put 2 goats in it for 6 months. Never saw another bramble!!

Use "Roundup"
Spray the nettles & spray the brambles and put a bag (like a poop bag) over an area youve intensivly sprayed and secure with an elastic band. Keep spraying & they will eventually die.

I remember watching Beachgrove Garden a few years ago when they put old carpets over the area. I think it takes a couple of years to completely clear it though, so probably no use to you, unless you like your garden carpetted ;-)

Right,  If you dont want to use things like Chemicals (and I use them alot, and just keep animals off untill the chemical has dried, I have not had anyone complain their animals have been ill yet ;) )
How about chopping them back, and pouring salt around the roots :)
I dont know how many you have, but Salt kills tree roots if you put it on them, So I presume (I have never tried this as I have a licence to use stringer chemicals then the public are allowed to use!!!!) it will work the same way :)
Just each Bramble back to about 2" and pour a heap of salt around the base!!!
Ony problem with that is it will use alot of salt :)(but you can get bags from Tesco at 26p a bag LOL)
