Hi

My JR was Spyed last Wednesday and is recovering well. She went back to the vets on Sat for a check up and all was well. I noticed yesterday she has a slight vaginal discharge. It looks like dark blood. She is well and eating ect so not overly concerned about her. Cant stop her bouncing about and yesterday she went for a walk on the lead and was pulling quite a bit. It was after the walk I noticed the blood.  She is used to a lot of free running so wasnt happy just on the lead.

Is the bleeding normal. It is only a tiny bit and I am thinking residue from her insides post op.  Could pulling on the lead and bouncing about have caused it?

I did ask when I collected her but never got a proper answer. She is to be kept on the lead while she has stitches. When they come out is she able to run free again like before. She normally runs full pelt with my whippet or am I better keeping her on the lead longer?

Thanks

You're best to call the vet or pop her in for a check with the nurse.

Sometimes bitches have bleeding from the "stump" - ages ago when I had a GSD spayed all of a sudden she poured flesh blood from her vaginal opening.  I called the vet, he explained what it was - and that was the end of it, she was fine.

Meanwhile, I would be very careful with her because she can open internal stitches - she's not healed.  If she is pulling hard it is as bad, if not worse, than running.

Hi

Thanks. I phoned the vet this morning and they said it should be ok and just keep a eye on her. She isnt bleeding much.  To be on the safe side I wont walk her for a couple of days and see how she is then.
