Could somebody please tell me why my oh is watching euro 2008 when there are no English teams in it!!!!!!!
It drives me mad!

Because it's footie that's why.
And Luca Toni......................
swoon.

My OH is a rare breed.......he can't stand football :)

Actually don't you mean British? There's only 1 English team but 4 British teams! ;-)
> There's only 1 English team but 4 British teams
hear hear!
and its cause it's not about supporting a team its about appreciation of 'the beautiful game'...or so my other half tells me.
given that he took me to crufts i figure i can cope with it (esp as i work evenings :)) not only that but i've tried to learn about it...i even kind of understand the offside rule and am making chilli for he and his cronies next weekend while they watch the game.

you may be british but i am English.

I am English too but I live in Scotland and that's all part of the British Isles.

we have a scottish team to..there are also welsh and northern irish teams.. british teams, not english teams :) and i;m not to my mind british, i;m scottish :)

what i meant was to my mind its the United Kingdom which in a way makes us all,
English, Irish,Welsh and Scottish.
didnt mean to offend anyone.

thats cool :) racial memory dictates that i must get jumpy if refered to as english lol :p
anywya, apparently its not about that, its about the skill blah blah... essentially its why i like to watch the rotties or great danes etc in the ring though i'll never have one. its not yours but its still nice to watch :)

I'm Scottish too and the only thing that offends me is bl***y football on TV , twice a day, for goodness knows how long. Its hard enough getting my OH to do anything after work, never mind wall to wall football as well :-D :-D :-D

My OH is also one of the rare breed (fantastic, can't stand football!!).

Im lucky to my OH hates footie. What really bugs me is it is on two channels at the same time. I dont want to watch it and i am lucky to have sky+ so I dont have to but not everyone else is the same.
When the rugby world cup was on it never interfiered with any programmes so why does the football?
I'm with you newf3, I have no interest unless our country is in it, or at least someone from the UK. :-D
I'm quite happy to sit and watch if I have someone to cheer. At present hubby, the boys and I are in different parts of the house, I'm a football widow and mother. :-D I feel like I'm having a mini (evening) holiday............

I've no interest in footie no matter what country's in it, however, the boys at work put a bet on this one which I have a stake in. I'm not sure who we need to qualify or win, but I'd quite like for our coupon to be a winner!

Hubby has no interest in footie :) though we both watch and support England games :)
My mum loves football, she goes to all her teams games home or away, i think it's funny :)

I quite like watching England play but have no interest in any international games if they're not playing. I have a football mad son but OH is more for rugby so I end up losing the TV at various times of the year.
At the moment I just walk in the room, see the football on, make a comment about not wanting to watch that and leave to entertain myself on the pc. You see, there's not much on TV that I am missing because of the football, however, I lurrrrve Strictly Come Dancing, X Factor and Dancing on Ice which OH detests with passion and so I can see a future retrospective trade off. I am happy to bide my time :)
Am not watching football I am married to a rugby man!!! Hurrah, and Im British but I support London Irish as a team and we watch England!! But in rugby there is a huge difference between Wales, Scotland, Ireland & England but we all support the Lions!!!

I only watch football if it's a big game and England are playing. Luckily my OH doesn't like football much eaither :-) It annoys me when my usual programmes aren't on though!

Killickchick, my OH hates football aswell he says he can't see the point in loads of men chasing a white ball :-D on the other hand i love football, i think it's because i have two boys and their passion for it has rubbed off on me and i try to make up for the fact that their father knows nothing about it.
If football is on it keeps the men quiet and out of trouble....thats a good right :-) :-) :-)

Oh yes, second that :) :) :) :)
> he says he can't see the point in loads of men chasing a white ball
Those are his words exactly :-D
Double luck for me is that my youngest is looking after my other daughters house until it sells, so, I don't have her and her bf hogging the tv either yipee!!! Tv's all mine, all mine..................nothings on :( oh yeah BB :)

My husbands favourite expression is "
Football is life. Life is minor detail" The young lads he works with think he is ace and me too, because I let him get away with it LOL

My biggest bugbear with all the hours given over to football ( or lets face it ANY sport !) is that it's just someone else's hobby .....and I only get one week's air time out of the whole year given over to
my hobby ( dog showing)
I hate all forms of sport - I'd rather lick gravel that watch a bunch of men try to kick a ball into the back of a net/hurl darts into a board/whack a ball with a lump of wood and run madly up and down or indeed any other combination of strange things that people do in the name of sport BUT ....huge chunks of television is given over to it and it's all taken SO seriously.
I have a theory that it's mostly men's hobbies that are catered for on TV - the dog world is largely supported by women which is why it's generally seen as trivial, eccentric and risible ..........but walk about trying to hit a small ball into a hole in the ground with a long stick and suddenly you're a sporting hero .... !!!!!
Yvonne
Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the majority of the wrokforce involved are men - presentors, editors, producers, camera men etc etc?????
To be honest though, when you look at TV in general (not just sport) there are more programmes directed purely at women, so how can we moan when men want to watch sport such as footie etc? And when they watch it they can go to the pub :-)
You do all realise that a lot of women like football as well dont you? I follow my team home and away and have now turned my new partner to the beautiful game, the crowds at footy are very mixed now with lots of ladies going to cheer on their team.
Ok so no British team in the Euro's this time but there is still some good footy being played (and ok some rather nice Italians to watch!)
Im more of a rugby girl myself :-)
Ditto those firm thigh's and cauliflower ears, saying that Ben Cohen had the nicest thighs I had seen in years...

I admire the skills, I enjoy the GAME of football.
But it is only a GAME, that is what I can't stand.
Do the players warrent the god like status they receive. It is not as if they are saving a life or anything.
Why does Rooney deserve what he gets when my son is out putting his life on the line for a pittance???
Rooney gets called the hero.
I have stood there on the terraces with the best, and the worst. Heck I even got arrested at Reading in the 80's for standing up to a male chauvinist pig who said, I should be at home having babies, and washing up, not looking pretty and distracting the real men, ( I threw my coffee at him). I even got locked in at Millwall. We sang football chants for 45 min until the police thought it was safe for us to be let out and the home fans had dispersed!!.The atmosphere at Wembly is fantastic. While viewed with the sportmanship it warrents football is good, but fisty cuffs and smashing up places in the name of sport. NO THANKS.
But apparentley I just don't understand the passion LOL

All the soaps, All things to do with body image i.e. dieting, fashion, reality TV. In fact any programme that features fat, ugly or normal women are usually for women. Most sports or programmes with stereotypical sexy women are for men ;)
All the soaps, My OH is more likely to watch the soaps than I am, I watch but can take or leave them - he won't go out if Corrie is on :-D :-D , and he loves football too !!

You can usually tell what sex the programmes are aimed at when they are not on BBC just by watching the adverts. Sports that are watched predominately by men will have adverts for beer, cars and aftershave whereas programmes watched predominately by women will have household/mumsie/beauty products. Advertisers know their target audiences
> standing up to a male chauvinist pig who said, I should be at home having babies, and washing up, not looking pretty and distracting the real men, ( I threw my coffee at him).
your my new hero.
