I'm in utter disbelief at the moment. My dog has just killed 3 birds in the space of a few hours. I own a breed with a high prey drive (huskys) and my bitch has had a rabbit before now so its not the fact hes killed things that shocks me (although picking dead birds up does make me feel a bit queezy!) its the way he's done it.
Zak (my dog) is very gangly and leggy and clumsy and quite unsteady on his feet. He also isn't particularly blessed in the brains department (or so I thought). I let both dogs into the garden as I got in from work. When I went to check on them there were 2 dead birds on the patio and I presumed it was Zak as Missy had spent most of the time inside with me but I couldn't believe he was quick enough to catch 1 let alone 2! Anyway, after their tea I let them out again and whilst I was cleaning their bowls I heard loads of screeching so went out to investigate and couldnt believe what I found. We have been replacing the fence panels and some of the old ones are stacked against the new ones until we get chance to go to the tip. Anyway, Zak had used the old fence panels to climb up, was balancing on top of the fence panel helping himself to a bird out the tree (I presume there is a nest)! I could'nt believe a dog that is so unsteady on his feet managed to balance on a fence panel whilst killing a bird! I also can't believe he worked out their was a nest there because we hadn't noticed it and neither had our other dog.
I guess the moral of the story is never underestimate a husky!
